Mediterranean Awards

In 1996, the Fondazione Mediterraneo instituted the Mediterranean Awards (with various categories) that are granted every year to eminent personalities from the worlds of arts and culture, politics and science and social disciplines, whose actions have contributed to reducing tensions, breaking down cultural barriers and developing shared values in the Greater Mediterranean.
This Award is considered one of the most prestigious acknowledgements in the world. Various events are associated with the Mediterranean Award, such as the “Euro-Mediterranean Concert for Dialogue Among Cultures” and the “Epiphany Concert” (organized by the Cultural Centre “Oltre il Chiostro” in collaboration with the Fondazione Mediterraneo. The latter event is broadcast by RaiUno and Rai International throughout the world every year on the morning of January 6th).

The Mediterranean Award for Poetry and Innovation was appointed to dr.Mana Saeed Al-Otaiba for his struggle for the alliance among civilizations and his respect for diversity and the pacific cohabitation among different populations. C4R utilizza l’arte “capoeira” (nata in Brasile) - costituita da musica, sport e gioco - per rafforzare le comunità fratturate e spezzate dalla guerra e costrette a fuggire dalle loro case. During a meeting between archaeologist Fedora Filippi – Special Superintendent for Archaeological Treasures of Rome –and president Michele Capasso it has been decided to install at MAMT museum a multimedia space on “Domus Aurea”, in order to spread the importance of the work site and evolution of this extraordinary archaeological site.

During a ceremony held at Mercadante theatre in Naples – in occasion of UE Italian Presidency Semester, 25° anniversary of Fondazione Mediterraneo and the 20° of “Mediterranean Award” –took place the ceremony for the appointment of “Mediterranean Award for Economy and Business” which has been assigned to Maurizio Marinella, in occasion of the Centenary of the birth of the brand famous all around the world.
Joined to the ceremony ambassadors from 42 Countries, the culture and tourism minister Dario Franceschini, culture assessor of Campania region Caterina Miraglia and other authorities.
In this occasion has been screened the Centenary’s video.
The award has been given by the ambassador Senen Florensa.

The award has been assigned by Parliamentary Minister Enrico Granara.

During a ceremony held at Mercadante Theatre in Naples – in occasion of EU Italian Presidency Semester, Fondazione Mediterraneo 25° anniversary and 20° of “Premio Mediterraneo” Pino Daniele was appointed by Jacopo Molinari with “Premio Mediterraneo Arte e Creatività”. Joined to the event ambassadors from 42 countries, Turism and Culture Ministry Dario Franceschini, Regione Campania Culture Assessor Caterina Miraglia and other authorities. Pino Daniele and his musicians thanked the public with four songs and in this occasion was also announced the join project between admiral Angrisano and Fondazione Mediterraneo for a Concert for peace in commemoration of the migrant’s lifes lost in the sea.
