Mediterranean Awards
The Fondazione Mediterraneo awarded the Queen Rania Al-Abdullah the "Mediterranean Award for Social Solidarity".
The President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Mr. Pier Ferdinando Casini, and the President of the Fondazione Mediterraneo, Mr. Michele Capasso, awarded the prize during a ceremony held at the Palazzo Montecitorio in Rome, where the Italian Chamber of Deputies meets.
The prize pays tribute to Queen Rania’s work to promote the education of girls and thus integrate the various sectors of Arab society into the global development process.
The Fondazione Mediterraneo awards the Mediterranean Prize in partnership with international institutions, such as the IPU, that support dialogue and cultural and social interaction in the Mediterranean region.
Last year, for example, the IPU organized a preparatory meeting for the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean at the Fondazione Mediterraneo headquarters in Naples.
