President Michele Capasso participated in the 6th International Colloquium "The Arab World: Realities, Challenges and Perspectives" organized by the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung and the Political Academy Forum.
The professor. Capasso spoke at the fifth scientific session dedicated to "The Arab States in the concert of nations" with the report entitled "The Arab World and Europe" in which he underlined the importance of migrants as a "resource for Europe" and not as a "problem" hoping for a return to shared multiculturalism

INTERNATIONAL MEETING OF PRAYER FOR PEACE PROMOTED BY THE COMMUNITY OF SANT'EGIDIO: “NO ONE IS SAVED ALONE. PEACE AND FRATERNITY".

The Fondazione Mediterraneo and the Anna Lindh Italy Federation participated in the international prayer meeting for peace on the theme "No one is saved alone. Peace and fraternity ", promoted by the Community of Sant’Egidio.
On this occasion the "Appeal for peace" was signed by the participants.

THE TEN YEAR OF THE TOTEM OF PEACE ON THE OCCASION OF THE VISIT OF THE PREFECT OF NAPLES MARCO VALENTINI

Ten years ago the "Totem of Peace" was inaugurated in San Sebastiano al Vesuvio.
The monumental work of the sculptor Mario Molinari - which the Fondazione Mediterraneo is spreading all over the world - was installed in front of the Municipality of San Sebastiano al Vesuvio and dedicated to Raffaele Capasso, Mayor of the town for 35 years and architect of the reconstruction after the eruption of Vesuvius in 1944.
A few days after the thirtieth anniversary of the death of Raffaele Capasso, the prefect Valentini comes on an institutional visit to the Municipality of San Sebastiano al Vesuvio also to see its diversity from the hinterland, thanks to the pioneering work of Raffaele Capasso and the administrators who have followed one another. .
Upon his arrival in the Town Hall, Prefect Valentini was welcomed by the Mayor Salvatore Sannino, by the Municipal Council and by the Municipal Councilors, in the presence of the Military, Civil and Religious Authorities.
After a brief interview in the Mayor's Office, the Prefect of Naples participated in the greeting ceremony, organized (in compliance with the current distancing measures) at the "Raffaele Capasso" Council Chamber, where he was greeted by the greeting of the Prime Minister Municipal Gianluca Sannino.
During the ceremony, the Mayor Salvatore Sannino wanted to thank the Prefect Valentini for choosing the Municipality of San Sebastiano al Vesuvio as the site of his visit and he carried out an intervention during which he illustrated the many activities of the Municipal Administration, putting in place highlights the contribution of voluntary associations and the fundamental role for the community of the Parish of San Sebastiano Martire.
The Prefect of Naples thanked the Mayor and the Community for the welcome received, highlighting how San Sebastiano al Vesuvio, from the data in the possession of the Prefecture, represents one of the examples of virtuous Municipalities, in contrast to the various criticalities that are found in the province . In this sense, he hoped that the example of San Sebastiano al Vesuvio could "infect" other realities as well.
Prefect Valentini also wanted to highlight how the care of the territory and local policies represent one of the first elements to promote urban security, since the issue cannot be reduced to just the intervention of the police.
At the end of the ceremony, Mayor Salvatore Sannino paid homage to the Prefect with a lava stone plaque, while the Local Section of the National Carabinieri Association and UNIPAN offered some gifts

THE TEN YEAR OF THE TOTEM OF PEACE AT THE FARNESINA

On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the inauguration of the sculptor Mario Molinari's "Totem of Peace" at the Farnesina, a commemorative ceremony was held with the main participants in that event: from Princess WIjdan Al Hashemi of Jordan to Mons. Fouad Twal, formerly Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, and to the representatives of the Governments and Ambassadors who attended then.
President Michele Capasso underlined the importance of the "Totem of Peace" as a symbol that brings together many countries of the world: "Just on the eve of the peace meetings scheduled in Rome on 20 October 2020, having remembered the long journey of 'monumental work that the Fondazione Mediterraneo is spreading throughout the world constitutes a call to brotherhood and unity - indispensable in a difficult moment in our history - also through symbols ”.

ANNIVERSARY OF THE MEDITERRANEAN ACADEMY

The ceremony for the 22nd anniversary of the establishment of the "Accademia del Mediterraneo - Maison de la Méditerranée" took place at the Museum of Peace - MAMT, which took place in Naples on 10 October 1998.

THE CAMPANIA OF EMOTIONS. MEETING OF THE SCIENTIFIC COMMITTEE

The meeting of the “ad hoc” Scientific Committee of the Mediterranean Foundation was held in full compliance with the “covid 19” rules for the definition of the emotional videos to be included on the web platform “LA CAMPANIA DELLE EMOZIONI”. The Committee, chaired by profs. Michele Capasso and Massimo Pica Ciamarra, first of all expressed thanks for the qualified "voluntary" work, carried out by experts and men and women of culture, aimed both at the selection of images from the filmed material concerning 16 cultural attractions of Campania (Naples, Avellino, Benevento, Royal Palace of Caserta, Salerno, Vesuvius, Pompeii, Baia and Cuma, Amalfi Coast, Sorrento Coast, Capri, Ischia, Procida, Certosa di Padula, Paestum and Herculaneum) and the selection of famous phrases by travelers, poets, writers, etc. . to be inserted as subtitles in the various videos. President Capasso summarized the reasons for the project, due to the requests of the majority of visitors and tourists to the Museum to be able to enjoy the emotional videos on the 16 UNESCO World Heritage attractions of the Campania Region - already a gift of the Museum - not only in the physical spaces of the Museum headquarters in Naples in via Depretis, 130 but also on an "ad hoc" web platform, in order to make them usable and enjoyable all over the world: a need that has been further strengthened with the spread of the Covid 19 pandemic.

TRIBUTE TO THE TOTEM OF PEACE WITH THE URN OF THE UNKNOWN MIGRANT

The president of the Mediterranean Foundation Michele Capasso and the architect Vincenzo Latina - recipient of the "Mediterranean City of Dialogue Award 2020" paid tribute to the Totem of Peace with the urn of the unknown migrant located in the Port of Naples, in the center of the Maritime Station and in the square dedicated to the Coast Guard.
On this occasion, also in the name of the Island of Lampedusa, olive branches from the island were laid: an ideal bond which was strengthened also in consideration that the relics of migrants contained in the urn of the "Totem of Peace" in the Port of Naples (inaugurated by Pope Francis on 21 March 2015) were brought by the Commander of the Coast Guard of Lampedusa.
The architect Vincenzo Latina adhered to the proposal to create a similar monumental work within the project he developed for the recovery of the Lampedusa quarries

CICCIO MEROLLA AND HIS MUSIC FOR PEACE AT THE CEREMONY OF THE "MEDITERRANEAN AWARDS 2020"

In full compliance with the distancing and protection rules for Covid 19, the award ceremony of the "Mediterranean Award 2020" was held at the headquarters of the Museum of Peace - MAMT in Naples, which inaugurated the celebratory activities for the thirtieth anniversary of the Fondazione Mediterraneo .
Recognized among the most important awards thanks also to the quality of the juries representing 43 Euro-Mediterranean countries, this edition of the Award saw the assignment of a new section called "City of dialogue".
On this occasion, the artist Ciccio Merolla performed in a concert of "Music for Peace" with the special instruments that characterize his art.

ARCHITECT FRANCESCO SCARDACCIONE AND ISHIMOTO EUROPE THE "MEDITERRANEAN AWARD CITY OF DIALOGUE" (special mention)

In full compliance with the rules of distancing and protection for Covid 19, the award ceremony of the "Mediterranean Award 2020" was held at the headquarters of the Museum of Peace - MAMT in Naples, which inaugurated the celebratory activities for the thirtieth anniversary of the Fondazione Mediterraneo .
For the "City of Dialogue" section, the special mention of the prize was awarded to the architect Francesco Scardaccione and Ishimoto Europe for the project of the Faculty of Engineering in San Giovanni a Teduccio - on the outskirts of Naples - for the degree of civilization of the work and the ability to create a space of relationships open to the city in which it inserts valuable functions.
The Prize was awarded by prof. Edoardo Cosenza - president of the Order of Engineers of Naples - representing the Rector of the Federico II University of Naples.
The reasons were read by prof. Eugenio Mazzarella, president of the jury.
The “Mediterranean Prize” is recognized among the most important awards thanks also to the quality of the juries representing 43 Euro-Mediterranean countries
