President Michele Capasso, in connection with the City of Catania, recalled the "great Sicilian actor naturally linked to the great authors of his Sicily".
Turi Ferro, whose 100th anniversary of his birth on 10 January and 11 May will be the winds of his death in 2001, was above all Pirandello in an exemplary way, managing to bring together, in the ambiguity typical of the great playwright's poetics, his well-known comic qualities with high and dramatic ones playing on times and pauses.
"Usually an actor, during breaks, makes it clear that he is reflecting on a line. Turi did and gave more, an added value - Andrea Camilleri testified - he inserted in his acting certain absolutely comic pauses in a dramatic context, he brought irony, modifying the direction, like any real actor ".
A complete actor, capable of giving life to characters who must arouse laughter, how to move with suffering, to act in Italian as in the Sicilian language, he was also an important character who certainly contributed to the construction of the modern identity of his city, Catania , making the authors and traditional and contemporary texts love, from Verga to Sciascia, but above all creating in 1958 with the best actors of the region, Rosina Anselmi, Michele Abbruzzo, Umberto Spadaro, that cultural center that is still the Teatro Stabile, of which it has been the symbol and soul for over 40 years. And it is the Stabile itself that promotes and coordinates the celebrations for this centenary, with shows, exhibitions, publications, which have been stopped for now by the pandemic.
His skill meant that an actor with natural talent appeared, instinctively, while he was a true professional and each character cost him effort, it was the result of a demanding job always spurred on by questions and doubts in deconstructing and then reconstructing a text, a part. Only then did the literary word find the measure of fiction, that intrinsic musicality that made it a body, turning out to be true, as happens with true art. Born in Catania in the last days of 1920 but registered on January 10, 1921, Salvatore Ferro, known as Turi, begins to act very young, at the Coppola theater in Catania, in the amateur dramatics company, directed by his father Guglielmo Ferro and alongside another Guglielmo , his son, who bears the name of his grandfather, will end his career by having him sign the direction of his latest shows, including a Shakespeare's' Storm 'in which by now eighty was a magical Prospero, a show told in a docufilm by Daniele Gonciaruk' Turi Ferro - The last Prospero 'who extends the investigation to the entire personality of the actor.

There is no emphasis on calling him one of the greatest and most influential Italian intellectuals of the twentieth century. "Probably the only figure that can be approached to Sciascia, despite the evident and very profound differences due to the impact on the cultural and political debate and the extraordinary ability to interpret his contemporaneity, is that of Pier Paolo Pasolini" said the president Michele Capasso in the room where the great writer's books and documents are kept. It is no coincidence that Pasolini himself became aware of Sciascia's talent right from his debut in the post-war period, with the Fables of the Dictatorship, in which a ferocious political satire was already revealed behind the stylistic code of Aesopian fables.
Beyond the civil passion, a trait that unites the two great authors is versatility: Sciascia was a writer, playwright, essayist, journalist, teacher, poet and even politician, first independent in the ranks of the Communist Party (from which he left because he did not share the line of the "historical compromise") and then for the Radical Party, of which he shared the great guarantee battles.

This morning a large influx of visitors and students, especially from elementary and middle schools, on the multimedia platforms and social channels of the Museum of Peace - MAMT to celebrate the “224th anniversary of the birth of the tricolor flag”. Videos, images and documents - since the first presentation of the tricolor in Genoa in 1789 - have involved young visitors. There are many connections, in particular with the city of Reggio Emilia for the main celebrations in that city.

President Capasso and the Foundation's Board of Directors expressed their disdain for the serious attack on democracy that took place in the Parliament of the United States of America. "The images coming from Washington are very serious" said President Capasso.
When we created the Fondazione Mediterraneo 30 years ago, we indicated in Parliament the "temple" of democratic values because Parliament itself is a temple of democracy: it is sad and worrying to see it attacked by many people fomented by a man, Donald Trump, who still holds the most prestigious position in the nation, that of president of the United States.
Now, even, he is shot inside Capitol Hill with some dead! It will be difficult to heal America's deep wounds: the best energies in the country will be needed. We always say that democracy should never be taken for granted, that it must be defended and respected in the first place by those who hold institutional roles. What is happening is a warning and a warning. For all of us.

The 41st anniversary of the death of Piersanti Mattarella is celebrated on the multimedia platforms of the Museum of Peace - MAMT On this occasion, pages from Giovanni Grasso's book “Piersanti Mattarella. Alone against the mafia” and the images of the programming that RAI has dedicated to all the networks and newspapers.
For high schools, a crime card was proposed, with subsequent investigations and the trial history: but, above all, the human and political figure of Piersanti Mattarella with the images of the Teche Rai, the interviews released by himself and some unpublished photographs.

Great influx of links and contacts on the multimedia platform of the Museum of Peace - MAMT for the centenary of the birth of Regina Bianchi.
In the interval between the first and the second show of the theatrical company of father Raffaele and mother Maria, in a dressing room of a Lecce theater, on January 1st 1921 Regina Bianchi was born, probably the Filumena Marturano par excellence of the Edwardian theater together with the cinematographic Sophia Loren. She is the daughter of art, indeed of the stage, on which she climbs only eight days old, in the role of a ... baby girl. A circumstance that then she will make her say: «at all ages, I have always worked». Many years later she told Fiamma Satta herself how things went: she had been put to sleep in a trunk, emptied of costumes and transformed into a comfortable and safe cradle. That day the property master forgot to procure a puppet that would serve as a baby on stage. And so Regina's father had the idea of using her little girl.
Until the age of 16 Regina worked in the company of Italo Bianchi, her father's stage name, with his surname, D'Antigny, then she understood that "that was not a form of theater that could give me a track, a framework, for another type of theater that I, on the other hand, intended to do ». And so, she leaves the paternal company. After having worked for a year in the company of Mimì Maggio, Dante's father, Rosa, Virgilio and Pupella, the enterprising Regina in the summer of 1938 shows up at Raffaele Viviani's house "with braids and rolled up white socks" and asks to join the company. Satisfied, she receives her first open stage applause, in the only scene performed; Viviani himself, with an affectionate gesture, brings her back to the audience for this first ovation. In 1940 Italo Bianchi receives a phone call from Eduardo De Filippo: "I need you to send me Regina". The young actress then began to work for the De Filippo, but they were difficult years, divided as she is between the stage and the two girls born from the relationship with her partner, the director Goffredo Alessandrini, former husband of Anna Magnani, met in 1939 in occasion of his first film: The glass bridge.

The president of the Mediterranean Foundation, prof. Michele Capasso, like everybody, has sent a message for the new year 2021 entitled “All united we will sing”.
In the message, President Capasso retraced the example of his father Raffaele - for 35 years mayor of San Sebastiano al Vesuvio and architect of the reconstruction after the eruption of Vesuvius in 1944 that destroyed the town - underlining similarities with the current difficult moment due to the worldwide pandemic of the Coronavisus which requires everyone and without distinction to work UNITED with the spirit of MANUFACTURERS for the COMMON GOOD.
"The culture of care - concluded President Capasso - constitutes the moral obligation these days: CARE for creation, CARE for the person, CARE for social relations, CARE for the other, CARE for the COMMON GOOD".
