The two days of videoconferencing of the “Leaders Summit on Climate”, convened by the President of the United States, Joe Biden, took place concurrently with International Earth Day. 38 prime ministers and heads of state were invited to the initiative, including Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi, as well as the President of the European Commission Ursula Von der Leyen and the President of the Council of Europe, Charles Michel.
The meeting was called in Washington even though the leaders took part in it remotely due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The topics discussed include the reduction of emissions of polluting gases in order to limit the average warming of the earth's temperature to no more than 1.5 degrees Celsius and the economic and social benefits of the ecological transition.
The president of China, Xi Jinping, also took part in the meeting. Despite the tensions on various issues, Washington and Beijing, the two largest economies in the world and among the most polluting countries of all, have published a joint statement in which they announced a commitment to combat climate change "with seriousness and urgency it deserves".
US President Biden has indeed announced a 50-52% cut in greenhouse gas emissions, while the Chinese one Xi Jinping has relaunched his country's commitment to "Carbon neutrality from 2060".

51st WORLD EARTH DAY

The Fondazione Mediterraneo and the Museum of Peace - MAMT celebrated the "51st World Earth Day" via the web and with numerous initiatives: videoconferences, connections, chats and - above all - the sending of 1,000 copies of the volume "This good earth of ours" published in 2014 by the Foundation and written by Sister Maria Pia Giudici, who passed away on 20.02.2020 precisely the day the coronavirus spread in Italy.
Through high-quality multimedia videos, a dowry of the World Heritage Museum, it was possible to make a virtual journey across the 5 continents, giving voice to the peoples who daily guard our common home, living and fighting for the protection and recognition of rights of each people in every corner of the Earth
.
In a world too often crushed by the European interpretation of the environment and its functions, the commitment of organizations and realities emerges which, establishing positive relations with nature, protect the original peoples who have always preserved the lungs of the earth. They fight together with those who daily commit themselves to service and to promote the conservation of the Amazon forests or the Congo forest.
Taking care of these peoples means taking care of the entire ecosystem, of the world, of our common home. The interrelation between the peoples of the earth is clear, the interdependence that makes us protagonists of a common destiny, which depends on the actions of men and women from every corner of the planet. With delicate ferocity, it is current events that reveal the subtle but constant bond that makes us all part of and architects of the future of our planet.
A single people sharing a single planet
.
The virtual journey of the Museum of Peace - MAMT allows us to listen to those who protect the earth every day to protect each of us.
President Michele Capasso retraced the stages of his commitment to the earth: at the age of 16, on April 22, 1970, he took part in the first edition of the world day. A commitment that for half a century has seen him spread, by all means, the alarm about the conditions of our common home, as evidenced by hundreds of interventions, reports and publications.
As I recall for Sister Maria Pia Giudici, below is the preface by President Michele Capasso to the volume “This good earth of ours”.
On this occasion the "APPEAL FOR THE UNITED STATES OF THE WORLD" was presented

FAREWELL TO PRINCE PHILIP: FUNERALS CELEBRATED IN WINDSOR. FROM THE MUSEUM OF PEACE - MAMT LIVE LIVE OF THE EVENT.

The president Michele Capasso and other members of the Fondazione Mediterraneo, in compliance with the anti-COVID safety distances, attended the live funeral from the large screens of the Museum of Peace - MAMT.
The United Kingdom said goodbye to Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh, who died almost 100 years old on Friday 9 April 2021, after 73 years of living alongside Queen Elizabeth.
The funeral took place privately in St George's Chapel in Windsor: an intimate but solemn ceremony, in compliance with Covid restrictions and the wishes of the deceased. About thirty present and separate seats for the two children of Carlo and Diana, William and Harry. No one in military uniform, distancing and face masks. In church the Queen in the pew alone, in front of the coffin.
In the royal crypt where Prince Philip was buried, in the chapel of St. George, there are the remains of 24 other royalty, including three kings of England, namely George III and his sons George IV and William IV. However, this is unlikely to be the permanent burial for Philip. After the death of Queen Elizabeth IIa, both will be buried in the “Royal Burial Ground”, a cemetery used by the British royal family, which is located on the Frogmore estate, near Windsor Castle.
At the end the notes of the recall to the service of the sailors of the British Royal Navy sealed the conclusion of the funeral of Prince Philip. In the chapel of St. George the bagpipes of a soldier of the Scottish honor troops in kilt also rang, testifying to the love for Scotland - and for the summer residence of Balmoral - that united the Duke of Edinburgh and the Queen.
The president Michele Capasso expressed the condolences of the Foundation and its networks to the English royal house, which for over 30 years have established cooperative relationships with the United Kingdom.

« TOWARDS NAPLES METROPOLITAN CITY »

The notes contained in the volume distributed on social networks from today and then in the press, are an invitation to reflect on the future of "Naples Metropolitan City": on the need to reform its institutional structure and to outline environmental and urban transformation processes that 'help to leave behind positions in the rankings for quality of life. The data collected are certainly not exhaustive: they are the minimums sufficient to highlight glaring anomalies or contradictions that lead us to suggest how to abandon "the era of unjustified ignorance" and how to outline a suitable institutional and urban reorganization. Again in summary form, they document how precisely in Naples - with the Framework Plan of Equipment (1974/75) - a first organic proposal was formulated on an urban scale of what will then happily be theorized in 2003 in "Five Minutes City" giving rise to principles and to techniques, first of all sporadic, which - from 2017 - begin to spread a little everywhere, from Canada to Australia and also in Europe. In the final pages, first notes of these logics in some and very different areas of the territory of “Naples Metropolitan City.
Volume was edited by Civilizzare l’urbano - ETS (with Patrizia Bottaro and Massimo Pica Ciamarra) and byNA.ME. - Institute for transformations of Naples Metropolitan City” (with Pasquale Belfiore, Alessandro Castagnaro, Ottorino Celano, Massimo Clemente, Annalola Geirola, Massimo Pica Ciamarra, Riccardo Rosi) with contributions by Valerio Barone (institutional aspects), Michele Capasso, Livio De Santoli (energy and sustainability), Paolo Frascani (economic history), Claudio Troisi (infrastructure and mobility) and by Gennaro Russo and Claudio Voto (Italian Institute for the Future / Center for Near Space).

"PHAROAHS GOLDEN PARADE" - THE BIG PARADE OF THE ROYAL MUMMIES

Ancient Egypt comes back to life with a historical event thanks to the "Pharoahs Golden Parade", the majestic parade organized by the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities for Saturday 3 April in Cairo.
The Fondazione Mediterraneo and the Museum of Peace - MAMT in collaboration with the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square and with the new National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC) in Fustat, participated among the international guests in live streaming at the historical event "Pharoahs Golden Parade", which the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has organized for Saturday 3 April in Cairo.
The protagonists are 22 royal mummies dating back to the XVII, XVIII, XIX and XX dynasty of the pharaohs. Of the 22 mummies, 18 belong to pharaohs, including Ramses II, Siptah, Seknen Ra, Tuthmosis III, Seti I, and four to queens, including Hatshebut, Meritamun, wife of King Amenhotep I, and Ahmose-Nefertari, wife of the king Ahmose. The event brought spectators back to the age of the pyramids, when kings and queens were transported to their tombs into eternity in sumptuous funeral processions.
The parade, accompanied by fireworks, started from Tahir Square and ended at the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, where the mummies will remain permanently. The mummies went down the Nile and carried by chariots and horses
