The whole town of Rutino celebrated the Totem for Peace that became, together with the Monumental Church, the distinction symbol of the town and the whole Cilento.

With an evocative ceremony, "flying" on a cable at a height of 30 metres between the bell tower of the Church of San Michele Arcangelo and the top of the Totem for Peace, the little Rutino inhabitant Emilio Vinci – as an “Angel of Peace” – opened the unveiling ceremony of the monumental work located in the same square where the Proclamation of the Garibaldi insurrection was announced.

On Saturday the 7th of August at 7.00 p.m. the President of the Fondazione Mediterraneo Michele Capasso and the Mayor of Rutino Michele Voria unveiled the work "Totem for Peace" by the sculptor Mario Molinari.

The work, 16 metres high, was built next to the church with the whole town contribution.

Political, cultural and religious personalities from Euro- Mediterranean countries attended the ceremony, introduced by Metis Di Meo.
Danilo Amerio with Antonio Voria held a concert in honour of the "Totem for Peace".

At the end of the unveiling ceremony of the Totem for Peace, the President of the Fondazione Mediterraneo Michele Capasso with the mayors Michele Voria (Rutino), Piero Rustico (Ispica), Mario Mangione (Vernole), Giuseppe Capasso (San Sebastiano al Vesuvio) and Franco Alfieri (Agropoli) unveiled the panel – a work by skilful artists from Vietri sul Mare, coordinated by Prof. Giuseppe De Lorenzo – representing a planisphere with the main cities in the world that will build the Totem for Peace.
