Mediterranean Award “Silver Dolphin” to Senen Florensa

The Mediterranean Award “Silver Dolphin” 2011 has been assigned to Senen Florenza (Spain), for his efforts for dialogue and peace.
The Awards Ceremony took place in Barcelona on 7 october 2011 in Pedralbes Palace, headquarter of Union for Mediterranean (UfM) –at the presence of General Secretar of UfM Youssef Amrani.
The award has been given by Michele Capasso– president of Fondazione Mediterraneo- and by Roberto Aliboni.

Meeting with General Secretary UFM Amrani

The president of Fondazione Mediterraneo Michele Capasso and Pia Molinari – member of board of Fondazione – met the General Secretary of Union for Mediterranean the Ambassador Youssef Amrani.

Euromesco annual Conference

The Euromesco annual conference entitled A new Mediterranean political landscape? was held in Barcelona, in the seat of the Union for the Mediterranean.
The Arab Spring and Euro-Mediterranean relations
The Fondazione Mediterraneo, member of Euromesco since 2006, participated in the Assembly with President Michele Capasso and Pia Molinari, member of the board: in their interventions they stressed the urgency to give space to young people  through a less academic language so that they may easily understand the analyses and strategies wished by the Countries of the Southern Shore  protagonists of “Arab Spring”.

GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF EUROMESCO NETWORK

The General and Extraordinary Assembly of “Euromesco”, the network of International Policy Institutes was held in Barcelona, in the seat of the Union for the Mediterranean.
On that occasion there was the ratification of “Euromesco” Charter as well as the analysis of the activities planned for 2012, taking into account the events occurred on the Southern shore of the Mediterranean.
The Fondazione Mediterraneo, member of Euromesco since 2006, participated in the Assembly with President Michele Capasso and Pia Molinari, member of the board.

International Conference “Diplomacy and Globalisation”

The President of Fondazione Mediterraneo Michele Capasso and the responsible for institutional relations Claudio Azzolini participated in the international conference “Diplomacy and  Globalisation” co-organized by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs  and by the  Foundation Mezzogiorno-Europa, in the presence of the President of the Republic Giorgio Napolitano.

Many speakers - Joseph Maila, Cristopher Hill, Fabio Petito, Franco Mazzei and others – took  part, as  members of the scientific committee of Fondazione Mediterraneo, in the three-year programme  (2005-2007) “Mediterranean, Europe and Islam: dialoguing actors” recalling the importance of this  action “forerunner in the analysis and research of international policy for the Mediterranean and the  Middle East”.

The “Totem of Peace” at Riva Sotto Chieri

The journey of the “Red Sail of Peace” continues
The monumental work by the sculptor Mario Molinari – that the Fondazione Mediterraneo is launching around the world – will soon be realized in the Commune of Riva Sotto Chieri (Turin).

The Fondazione Mediterraneo and United States of the World support a mission in Tanzania

The Fondazione Mediterraneo supports the mission of doctor Francesco Paolo Iaccarino in Tanzania, which made it possible to discover a natural remedy to be used against malaria, giving immunization:  thousands of people have been saved and high gratitude is felt by local inhabitants.  
Other activities carried out include:  realisation of wells, rural aqueducts and construction of a laboratory for the production of  herbal remedies on the site.
President Capasso met father Arnold: a missionary who devotes entirely his time to follow  projects and actions of solidarity and aid. Father Arnold and other missionaries were awarded the titles of "Standard Bearers of the United States of the World".

The mayor of Naples Luigi de Magistris visited the Central Office of Fondazione Mediterraneo, Maison de la Paix and Maison des Alliances expressing his appreciation for the work carried out for twenty years in favour of dialogue and peace.

Mediterranean Award Special Edition 2011 to the mayor of Naples Luigi de Magistris

The  Mediterranean Award Special Edition 2011 – City for Peace was attributed to the mayor  of  Naples Luigi de Magistris.
The Awarding ceremony took place on Friday  23rd September 2011 in the Sala Giunta of San Giacomo Palace.
The award was given by Pia Molinari  and Michele Capasso.
« A sign of esteem and challenge so that, under the direction of the Mayor Luigi de Magistris, the European Thought and the Mediterranean Spirit may be realised through a renewal of the City of Naples based on active competence and social involvement ».
This is the main reason which pushed the international Jury of the « Mediterranean Award » - made up of representatives of 43 Euro-Mediterranean Countries- to confer on the City of Naples and on the Mayor Luigi  de Magistris the « Special Edition 2011 – City for Peace »  of the Award, considered as one of the most prestigious at the international level and « attributed every two years  to personalities and institutions which have given a strong  contribution to the dissemination of culture and of social solidarity ».
In the previous editions the « Mediterranean Award Special Edition » was attributed, among others, to the Nobel Prize-winner Naguib Mahfouz, to Queen Rania Al-Abdullah of Jordan, to the  Fez Festival of World Sacred Music.
