THE TOTEM FOR PEACE TRAVELS TO KURDISTAN

The President of the Fondazione Mediterraneo Michele Capasso and Pia Molinari – board member of the Fondazione -  met with the President of the Region of Iraqi Kurdistan, Massoud Barzani, accompanied by a delegation of ministers and the Head of Cabinet, Fuad Hussein.
On that occasion, President Barzani adhered to the “Totem for peace” guaranteeing the support of his country to the project.
The sculpture by Mario Molinari  - Totem for peace - was presented at several events that took place to commemorated the anniversary of the genocide of Halabja acknowledging it’s as a symbol to represent the martyrs of Kurdistan.

PRESIDENT BARZANI, REPRESENTATIVE OF KURDISTAN IS AWARDED THE MEDITERRANEAN AWARD FOR PEACE

The President of the Fondazione Mediterraneo Michele Capasso awarded  -  together with the Albanian Defense Minister Arben Imam -  the 2012 “Mediterranean Award for Peace” to the President of the Region of Iraqi Kurdistan Massoud Barzani.
Capasso stated that “this award has been conferred upon the Kurdish people and the martyrs of one of the most ferocious genocides in history”.
Before a large audience, an emotional President Barzani said the following: “This award is a tribute to the victims of genocide in Kurdistan and to all the Kurdish people. It is an international acknowledgment of the possibility for different religions and diverse ethnicities to live alongside one another contributing to peace. I dedicate this prestigious Award to the families of all the victims of genocide in Kurdistan”.
On this occasion, President Michele Capasso and Pia Molinari were awarded the titles of "Standard Bearers of the United States of the World" to young people and women in Erbil who are committed to promoting peace and sustainability.

THE MARTYRS OF HALABJA ARE REMEMBERED IN ERBIL

The President of the Fondazione Mediterraneo Michele Capasso and Pia Molinari - board member – took part in a ceremony in Erbil to commemorate the genocide of Halabja.  On 16 March 1988, Saddam Hussein’s forces carried out one of its most ferocious attacks with chemical weapons and gas, annihilating the lives of thousands of innocent civilians and causing irreparable damage to survivors.
In his speech, President Capasso expressed his support for the cause of acknowledging the genocide, by reading the appeal he wrote and disseminated throughout the world in 1988, as a result of which 300,000 people signed a petition “IN MEMORY OF” this
Terrible crime against humanity.
On that occasion, President Capasso met the Minister for Martyrs and Anfal Affairs Aram Ahmed Muhammad, suggesting that the Totem for peace should be dedicated to honour the victims and create a virtual memorial dedicated to them.

THE FONDAZIONE MEETS MINISTERS FROM THE KURDISTAN GOVERNMENT

The President of the Fondazione Mediterraneo Michele Capasso and Pia Molinari – board member of the Fondazione – met a delegation of ministers from Iraqi Kurdistan.
In particular, during the meetings with the Minister  of Justice Raouf Rashid – who judged Saddam Hussein – it was agreed that a historic report of Saddam Hussein’s trail would be presented in the Maison des Alliances, in Naples. Initiatives were agreed to promote Kurdistan throughout the world tougher with the Minister of foreign Affairs, Falah Mustafa Bakir.

THE TOTEM FOR PEACE IN ALBANIA

The President of the Fondazione Mediterraneo Michele Capasso and Pia Molinari – responsible for the “Totem for Peace” – met with the Albanian Defense Minister Arben Imami, who declared his availability for the creation of the “Totem for Peace” in his country, in a place that symbolises the “war” thus transforming it into a “Place of Peace”.

The Fondazione participates in the anniversary to commemorate the genocide of Halabja

During their visit to Iraqi Kurdistan and Erbil, President  Michele Capasso and Pia Molinari, a board member of the United States of the World Foundation, paid tribute to the martyrs of  Halabja during the 24th  anniversary of the genocide. On that occasion, they suggested dedicating their monumental work, the  “Totem of Peace” by the sculptor Mario Molinari.
At a meeting with the President of the Kurdistan Region,
Massoud Barzani and the Minister for Martyrs and Anfal Affairs, Aram Ahmed Muhammad, the first steps were taken towards the creation of the work for which the International Committee has authorized using the colours of the Kurdistan flag.
Many messages of commemoration were sent including one from the President of the Republic, Giorgio Napolitano. President Napolitano has sent a personal message of solidarity to the Kurdish population of several occasions. A message was also sent by the Mayor of Mazzarino.
On this occasion, the titles of "Standard Bearers of the United States of the World" were awarded to young women from Morocco.

THE FONDAZIONE MEDITERRANEO SUPPORTS THE RECOVERY OF THE CITADEL

The President of the Fondazione Mediterraneo Michele Capasso and Pia Molinari – board member and director of art and creativity sector - visited  the citadel of Erbil to verify the state of restoration works.
“As an architect who specialised in restoration and President of the Fondazione devoutly committed to the protection of UNESCO sites (Marrakesh, Carthage, Matera, etc.), I would like to make available the capacities  of the networks at my disposal to protect and valorize this site, which is one of the oldest in the world and a true jewel of humanity.”
These were the words of President Capasso commented at the conclusion of his visit to the Citadel.

The AFCEA celebrates its 50th anniversary with the Fondazione Mediterraneo

The Naples Chapter of the AFCEA celebrates its 50th anniversary since its foundation by signing an agreement with the Fondazione Mediterraneo for the establishment of an “Air Traffic Cyber Security School”.
Naples was the capital of cyber security for two days with the “Cyber Security Conference and Challenge”.
The event, organised by the Afcea (Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association) Naples Chapter  together with the Fondazione Mediterraneo, included the participation of 80 international guests from  both the armed forces and civil society, who came together to discuss the problems relating to cyber security.
“This was a great achievement for Naples”, explained President Capasso, “which was the centre of an international scientific conference for two days”.
At the conclusion of the event, the president and vice president of the  AFCEA Naples Chapter were elected, - Giuseppe Marani and Dario Nicolella, respectively.
The conference was attended by the President of the AFCEA International, Kent Schneider and General Gregory Brundidge (US European Command) in addition to the US company Cisco, the University of Glasgow, Enea,  Formez Italia and Eurocontrol.

General Gregory Brundidge visits the Fondazione and the “Totem of Peace”

Accompanied by a delegation comprising civil and armed forces officials, General Gregory L. Brundidge – U.S. European Command – visited the Fondazione Mediterraneo and expressed his profound appreciation for the work carried out by the Fondazione in the name of peace, especially in the Middle East.
The General also expressed his personal appreciation for the Totem of Peace by the sculptor Mario Molinari, acknowledging its artistic and symbolic significance.

An agreement is signed between the Fondazione Mediterraneo and the Afcea International

The President of the Fondazione Mediterraneo Michele Capasso and the President of the Afcea International – the body bringing together 34,000 members throughout the world in the field of military and cyber security, signed an agreement for the establishment at the Naples headquarters of the Fondazione of the first
SCHOOL FOR AIR TRAFFIC SOFTWARE SECURITY” pursuant to legislation introduced by the European Regulation ESSAR 6 (2008).
