The medal of honour from the Afcea International, the body that brings together 34,000 institutions from all over the world in the field of civil and military security. General Giuseppe Marani emphasised that only 20 medals of honour had been conferred in the world to date. |

The City of Turin has paid tribute to the sculptor Mario Molinari, author of the “Totem of Peace”, which the Fondazione Mediterraneo is disseminating throughout the entire world. In fact, a name plate has been placed on the house-museum where he lived and created his works of art. The ceremony to unveil the name plate was solemn and moving and was attended by dignitaries from the city, as well as diplomats and representatives from parts of the world in which his works are exhibited. The participants included the Consulate General of Morocco, Nourredine Radhi, Don Luigi Ciotti and many other who knew and admired the works of the “Sculptor of Colour”. The Mayor of Naples, Luigi de Magistris, was also among those who sent a message for the ceremony. President Michele Capasso commemorated the artist and good friend defining him as representing the “Power of Love”. |

President Michele Capasso met with Don Luigi Ciotti, the President of the Association “Libera”, presenting him with the “‘Raffaele Capasso’ Mediterranean Award for Legality”. The ceremony will take place on the day dedicated to combating the mafia and in affirmation of law and legality. |

Mario Molinari
On the morning of Friday, March 9th, the plaque commemorating Mario Molinari, a surrealist painter and cultor, was discovered in street Saluzzo 56, who had his own studio and home in this street. To remember him, with his wife Pia and his sons Jacopo and William, the Councilor for Culture of the City of Turin, Maurizio Braccialarga, the President of the City Council, Giovanni Maria Ferraris, representing the mayor Piero Fassino, the president of the Circumscription 8 Mario Cornelio Levi and above all many friends. In his speech, Levi expressed the desire to see one of the works of the great master who died in 2000 set in the San Salvario district.

Euro-Mediterranean dialogue was relaunched in Rome thanks to the impetus injected by Italy. The meeting of took place in Villa Madama bringing together the 5+5 dialogue Forum , comprising France, Italy, Malta, Portugal and Spain, on one side, and Algeria, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco and Tunisia, on the other, Later in the day, the meeting was extended to include Egypt, Greece and Turkey taking the form of the Foromed forum. “The diplomatic representatives focused in a concrete and practical way on regional security, migratory flows, energy and protection of the environment”, commented Minister Giulio Terzi. The 3+5 dialogue meeting was presided by Minister Terzi together with Tunisian Minister, Rafik Abdessalem. |
The Mayor of the City of Naples entrusts relations with Mediterranean countries to the Fondazione: Protocol of Understanding signed by President Michele Capasso

Today, the Mayor of Naples, Luigi de Magistris, and the President of the Fondazione Mediterraneo, Michele Capasso, signed a Protocol of Understanding. By doing so, the Municipality of Naples will be able to take advantage of the international experience of the Fondazione Mediterraneo and its President, Michele Capasso, in promoting social, cultural, artistic and scientific relations with Mediterranean countries. In fact, this cooperation will come into play at important events such as the World Urban Forum and the Universal Forum of Cultures. Mayor de Magistris stated that, “it is a further objective for the City of Naples to become the Capital of Peace for the Mediterranean”. President Capasso concluded that, “the collaboration of our Fondazione with the City of Naples is inspired by the same sensitivity shared by those people who want to redesign Europe based on the values and cultures of the Mediterranean, in particular those matured by urban centres such as Naples”. The Municipality of Naples recognize the Fondazione Mediterraneo as the reference point for its activities with Mediterranean countries and accordingly the Mayor of Naples has delegated the responsibility of representing him throughout the Mediterranean to President Capasso. Michele Capasso stated that, “The Fondazione Mediterraneo is a unique instrument in restoring Naples to the heart of relations and cooperation in the Mediterranean. These are pre-requisites both for co-development and peace-making in the region”. |
International Conference - Sustainable Environment in the Mediterranean Area: from housing to urban and land scale construction

The International Conference on Sustainable Development in the Mediterranean Area took place at the seat of the Fondazione Mediterraneo. The Conference was organized by CITTAM (Università Federico II) in collaboration, among others, with the Fondazione Mediterraneo. President Michele Capasso, Professors Dora Francese and Virginia Gangemi were among the international guests who spoke at the inaugural session. |
