THE TOTEM OF PEACE OF MOLINARI SYMBOL OF REFUGEES

“Totem of peace" of Molinari symbol of refugees and human rights. Together with the "Euromed Award", the winner of the 2017 edition - the "International Band" association - a copy of the "Totem of Peace", which represents migrants from all over the world, has been consigned. President Capasso recalled the monumental work present in the port of Naples and inaugurated on March 21, 2015 with the visit of Pope Francis. Big party to the winner by the leaders of the national networks of the FAL of Spain, France, Mauritania and other countries, of prof. Caterina Arcidiacono and Giusy Nicolini (former mayor of Lampedusa and member of the Euromed Award jury).
XVIa MEETING OF THE CAPOFILES OF THE NATIONAL NETWORKS ALF

Was held in Tallin (Estonia) on 13 and 14 December 2017, the 16th Meeting of the Lead Leaders of the ALF National Networks.
They were discussed on this occasion:
- Objectives and Strategies for the new ALF phase with the networks involved.
- Network development and analysis of the European Commission document on the following main points:
- Increased direct involvement of ALF members in Foundation programs by avoiding that most of the resources available to support members and their work remain exclusively in the hands of Lead Partners (HoN).
- Increased horizontal and internal communication to date limited.
- Definition of common rules for the designation of national network Lead Lead Partners.
- Insufficient knowledge of ALF members, their work and potential.
- More space for civil society in the management of national networks.
- Review and reform of network management in the light of evaluations by the European Commission.
The meeting was preceded by a meeting between President Capasso and Professor Arcidiacono (official delegates by the majority of the members of the Italian Network to represent them at the Tallinn Meeting) with President Guigou and Executive Director Atallah: on this occasion the situation of the Italian Network and the considerable documentation produced (last parliamentary question of 12.12.2017) was analysed. The common hope is that there will be a rapid solution along the lines of other networks (in particular Turkey) in order to guarantee the legitimate democratic representativeness specifically required by the European Treaties and the regulations that the European Commission imposes on the ALF as its main donor.
On this occasion, Tunisia's lead partner Anis Boufrika presented, on behalf of all, an award to the Executive Director Atallah that at the end of the year, leaves ALF.

The President of the Anna Lindh Foundation, Elisabeth Guigou, during a meeting with President Michele Capasso and Prof. Caterina Arcidiacono, expressed her appreciation for the results of the joint action "Kimiyya", which was also considered by the ONU as one of the main initiatives in favour of women.
President Capasso confirmed the programme for the second edition (2018) dedicated to "Women and Migrants", which will involve more than 70 countries.
On this occasion, one of the bags made for "Kimiyya" by Syrian women who had children killed in the conflict was handed over to President Guigou.

The President of the Fondazione Mediterraneo Michele Capasso, Pia and Jacopo Molinari, the members of the Board of Directors and the International Scientific Committee, the delegates of the branch offices and the directors of the autonomous sections are in contact with Nicole and Antonio Voria for the loss of her dear husband and father Michele.
A member of the Mediterranean Foundation, Mayor of Rutino and passionate of the Mediterranean, Michele Voria shared from the beginning the aims of the Foundation with initiatives - starting from 1994 - in favour of the people of the former Yugoslavia.
We would like to remind you of your "generous" being at the service of the Common Good.
In this interview, his testimony on the "Totem for Peace" to Rutino, which he strongly wanted and which we will now propose is titled in his name.
THE SAVAGES OF GERMANY. DIE BRÜCKE AND DER BLAUE REITER EXPRESSIONISTS

The president Michele Capasso and the prof. Caterina Arcidiacono visited the exhibition the Savages of Germany. Die Brücke and Der Blaue Reiter Expressionists, which will open at the Kumu Art Museum on 22 September, offers the Estonian audience a unique chance to view the most outstanding works of art of two pivotal art groups of the early 20th century. Through the oeuvre of Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Emil Nolde, Vassily Kandinsky, August Macke, Franz Marc, Alexej von Jawlensky and others, the exhibition focusses on the innovations introduced to the art scene by expressionists. Expressionists dedicated themselves to the study of major universal themes, such as the relationship between man and the universe, via various deeply personal artistic means.
Die Brücke (“The Bridge” in English) was a German artistic group founded in 1905 in Dresden. The artists of Die Brücke abandoned visual impressions and idyllic subject matter (typical of impressionism), wishing to describe the human inner world, full of controversies, fears and hopes. Colours in their paintings tend to be contrastive and intense, the shapes deformed, and the details enlarged. Besides the various scenes of city life, another common theme in Die Brücke’s oeuvre was scenery: when travelling through the countryside, the artists saw an opportunity to depict man’s emotional states through nature. The group disbanded in 1913.
Der Blaue Reiter (“The Blue Rider” in English) was another expressionist group and was active in the years 1911–1914. It centred around Russian emigrants (Vassily Kandinsky, Alexej von Jawlensky and others) and local German artists (Franz Marc, August Macke and others). The members were united in their desire to express topics related to the universe, the soul and the world of spirits. Strong colours were important in their work, and each colour was assigned a certain spiritual or symbolist association. The works of both of the groups earned acclaim in Europe and their members are considered the most outstanding representatives of expressionism, one of the most significant artistic movements ever.
In addition to showing the works of the main authors of German expressionism, the exhibition attempts to shed light on expressionism as an influential artistic movement of the early 20th century which left its imprint on the Estonian art of the post-World War I era. Ado Vabbe, Peet Aren, Nikolai Triik, Konrad Mägi and others experienced the German art scene directly during their studies and travels, but also via expressionist influences in modern literature, drama and elsewhere. The context of the exhibition allows the viewer to experience multi-layered developments in expressionism via original works of art by Estonian artists, enriching their understanding of expressionism as a dynamic, versatile and vital phenomenon covering a large geographical area.
The exhibition has been made possible thanks to collaboration with a number of German art museums and galleries. The expressionist works of art by Estonian authors come from the collections of the Art Museum of Estonia, Tartu Art Museum and a private collection.
The Museum of Peace – MAMT has proposed to host part of the exhibition.
THE TRAVELLERS: VOYAGE AND MIGRATION IN NEW ART FROM CENTRAL AND EASTERN EUROPE

The president Michele Capasso and the prof. Caterina Arcidiacono visited the Museum Kumu and the exhibition looks at travel in a region where freedom to travel was, until recently, a luxury available only to the very few. The revolution of 1989/1991 and the subsequent opening to the world and globalization processes allowed citizens of the former Eastern bloc personal mobility on an unprecedented scale. The region’s new, post-socialist identity was dictated by participation in international exchanges as much as by the new political and economic order.
For two successive decades, capitalism and globalisation carried us farther, faster and surer, until we got used to thinking in terms of progress with only one direction: forward! Accelerated mobility became the ultimate condition, just as forced immobility had been a defining factor for the previous generations of Eastern Europeans. Today, we see how that moment was as pivotal for modern European history as it was exceptional. Europe’s response to foreign refugees shows that our participation in the global exchange was, and is, predominantly one-way. We do not willingly share the privileges that we gained after the fall of the Berlin Wall and as a consequence of our EU accession. We are enthusiastic about going abroad, but far less so about welcoming foreigners.
The Travellers showcases the enriching value of travel and simultaneously problematizes the tensions that inevitably arise between the poetics of the travelling experience and the political situations that condition it. The exhibition presents mobility as the ultimate condition of today just as the forced immobility was the defining force for the previous generations of Eastern European citizens – thus offering a reflection on the character of contemporary postsocialist identities, formed at the intersection between the two.
Twenty-four contemporary artists hailing from fifteen countries of the former Soviet bloc and former Yugoslavia show how people, goods, and ideas flow between this part of Europe and other regions of the world. They tell the stories of holiday trips as well as distant journeys and migrations; stories of the closed borders during the divided Cold War-era Europe as well as of the capitalism-driven acceleration of the 21st century. Travellers and migrants themselves, they share their personal experiences of moving between various languages and cultural contexts – the multiplicity of viewpoints particularly needed in the time of heightened nationalism and anti-immigrant sentiments in Europe today.
All works in the exhibition were created after the year 2000 by artists from Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Russia, Serbia, Albania, Kosovo, United States, United Kingdom and Estonia. Two Estonian artists, Flo Kasearu and Karel Koplimets, prepared new projects specifically for The Travellers. The exhibition includes the large-scale installation Halka/Haiti 18 48′05′′N 72 23′01′′W by C.T. Jasper and Joanna Malinowska, which was first presented in the Polish Pavilion at the 56th Venice Biennale in 2015. The majority of 24 artists in the exhibition have never been presented in Estonia before.
The exhibition is accompanied by a book of the same title with contributions from the artists and the curator, published by Lugemik and designed by Stuudio Stuudio (Mikk Heinsoo & Kaarel Nõmmik).

THE MEDITERRANEAN FOUNDATION CELEBRATES THE TENTH OF THE SEAT IN ESTONIA

On the occasion of his visit to Tallinn, President Michele Capasso celebrated the tenth anniversary of the establishment of the Estonian branch of the Fondazione Mediterraneo at the University of Tartu, recalling the commitment of Prof. Kammerer.
Among the initiatives organized, of particular significance are the international conferences on Classical Cultures, which have seen the participation over the years of leading experts under the guidance of Prof. Nullo Minissi, scientific director of the Fondazione Mediterraneo.

An initiative open to the city and to all those who wanted to be there: this is the sense of "Have twenty years in the South: the reasons to stay and return", the initiative promoted by il Mattino and hosted by the Mercadante theatre in Naples.
Acts of tension before the conference begins. Twenty or so protesters attempted to break through the security lines of the security forces, protesting against government reforms, from the Jobs Act to the Good School, to the cry of "away from Naples".
Security reasons then suggested postponing the next visit to the Fondazione Mediterraneo and the Museum of Peace - MAMT, which is located a hundred meters from the Theatre Mercadante.
Three working sessions: the first was led by the President of the Council Paolo Gentiloni, the Mayor of Naples Luigi De Magistris, the President of the Campania Region Vincenzo De Luca, the Rector of Federico II Gaetano Manfredi, the Presidents of Confindustria Vincenzo Boccia, the CNR Massimo Inguscio and Svimez Adriano Giannola, the economists Roberto Perotti and Gianfranco Viesti, the philosopher and the editorial officer. The second session was introduced by the Minister of Economic Development Carlo Calenda with discussions by Marco Bentivogli (Secretary General Fim Cisl), Felice Delle Femine (Director General Bcp), startupper Adriano Farano, economist Oscar Giannino, Claudio Gubitosi, Director Giffoni Film Festival, Francesco Guido, Director General Banco di Napoli, philosopher Aldo Masullo, president of Greta group Marco Zigon, and supervisor of Digita Academy of Federico II Antonio Pescapè.
At 14.00.30th session with the report by Claudio De Vincenti, Minister of the Mezzogiorno, followed by the speeches of Morning columnist Massimo Adinolfi, Dorina Bianchi for Ap, Mara Carfagna for Forza Italia, Maria Chiara Carrozza for the PD, Stefano Fassina for the sinistra italiana and Roberto Fico for the movimento cinque stelle, as well as the editorialist of il mattino Isaia Sales. During the sessions, live videos and testimonies of young people from the south who live on their own skin about the uncertainty of the future from students, graduates or unemployed.
President Michele Capasso expressed his appreciation for the initiative of "IL MATTINO", hoping that the focus on youth will never go out: on this the Fondazione Mediterraneo has been committed for 25 years and will always be committed, to give young people hope and future.

During a cordial meeting with the Prefect of Naples Carmela Pagano, the President of the Fondazione Mediterraneo Michele Capasso illustrated the project "Kimiyya" in favor of legality and women and handed over one of the bags made by Syrian women who had children or husbands killed in the recent conflict.
The Prefect expressed his appreciation for the initiative and said that he would take care of explaining to the Minister of the Interior its importance and international importance.
