TOTEM FOR PEACE

The "Totem for Peace" is a trademark duly filed in accordance with the regulations. Therefore, any initiatives undertaken by third parties using that trademark or the word "Totem for Peace" in any context and for whatever purpose, it integrates to all intents and purposes the case of trademark infringement.

The "Totem of Peace", the work of the Turin sculptor Mario Molinari, is the symbol of the "United States of the World" and represents the Peace: it was chosen in 1997 by 3,000 representatives of 181 countries and since then the "United States of the World" with the "Fondazione Mediterraneo" are spreading this universal symbol by setting up the network of "Cities for Peace".
The sculptor Mario Molinari was an artist of clear fame, sensitive to the themes of peace and dialogue between cultures, as evidenced by his numerous works and his life.
The cultural project of the "Totem of Peace" is carried out in the world by Michele Capasso: dedicated, since 1987, to the construction of dialogue as a tool for the mediation of conflicts, he combines his international experience of social and intercultural planning and planning with the professional one of architect and engineer.
Many countries have created the monumental work symbolising peace and coexistence between different peoples. Among the main ones are:

   

The sail that symbolizes the journey, the sea. This “Mare Nostrum” of ​​Ours which was the cradle of civilization, the scene of clashes and battles between the people who inhabited it but also and above all of the exchange of goods and knowledge. A sea celebrated in myth where Ulysses got lost, continuing to wander in his desperate search for his way back. The sail that turns red, at dawn and dusk, at departure and return in the immutable rhythm of the Universe .

President of Fondazione Mediterraneo Michele Capasso met the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
On this occasion Capasso remembered activities carried out by Fondazione Mediterraneo in favour of Turkey and the Prime Minister´s Official Visit in Naples on September the 2nd, 2005.

Mr. Erdoğan expressed his support to the actions of the "Totem for Peace" and the "Maison de la Paix".
The city of Istanbul has been chosen to realize the "Totem for Peace".
For this realization, Mr. Capasso, proposed to create a special work, reproducing the Totem for Peace - by the Turin sculptor Mario Molinari - with led lights positioned on the 4 piers of the Bosfor Bridge: a symbol of Peace between East and West, between Europe and Asia.

During his speech at the plenary session, President Michele Capasso asked the delegations to approve the project of the "Totem for Peace".

Capasso explained that this action is part of the programme of the “Maison des Alliances”. The Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean agreed to support this action during the 3rd Plenary Session which took place in Montecarlo last November 2008.
Presidents of delegations promised their interest in the realization of the "Totem" in their respective Countries.

The first “Totem” will be realized in Morocco, Malta, and Palestine.
“We´re honored – said the Palestinian Walid Assaf – of this opportunity and I think that the city of Ramallah swill be the ideal location for the Totem”.

The coordinators of the 43 National Networks of the "Anna Lindh" Foundation supports the project of the "Totem for Peace".
This symbol of peace, proposed the first time at the 2nd Euromed Civil Forum (Naples, 1997) will be realized in the most important Euromediterranean countries, in the next years, in cooperation with Parliaments and ALF National Networks.

President Michele Capasso met the Mayor of Fez Mr. Hamid Chabat, who expressed the support of the city of Fez to the realization of the "Totem for Peace" and the adhesion to the network "Cities for Peace in the World".

The Mayor
decided that the Totem must be of 12 metres high and it will be positioned in the heart of the city in the Square Grande Poste dell´Avenue Hassan II.

President Michele Capasso met the Mayor of Rabat, ancient Minister of Finance, Mr. Fathallah Oualalou and the Director of National Library of Morocco, Mr. Driss Khrouz.

During the meeting the Mayor expressed the support of the city of Rabat to the realization of the "Totem for Peace" in front of the National Library.
The Mayor also agreed to organize a meeting with mayors of the network
"Cities for Peace in the World".
