THE MAISON DE LA PAIX

CASA UNIVERSALE DELLE CULTURE

The Maison de la Paix - Casa Universale delle Culture is a place strongly representative, in which will convey the knowledge of the different identities and cultures, structuring permanently initiatives aimed at the spreading of peace, necessary for the shared development.

The Maison de la Paix - Casa Universale delle Culture (MdP) is a project conceived by Michele Capasso, approved by many Countries and international organizations. It is an architecture that keeps the memory of many Peace activities which created history, often more than the wars, but it is – above all – a space "to build” Peace.

The architectonical complex has an important symbolic worth: it represents the Countries of the World engaged in the Peace process and the Countries victim of the conflicts.

Proposed by the Fondazione Mediterraneo with the Maison des Alliances – together with the main adherent organizations, such as the Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly, the League of Arab States, the "Anna Lindh" Euro-Mediterranean Foundation and others, the MdP represents a referent point for all the ones who dedicate their lives to peace.

The symbol of the MdP is the "Totem for Peace", an artwork by the Italian sculptor Mario Molinari which the Fondazione Mediterraneo is promoting all around the world, creating the network of the "Cities for Peace".

The first seat of the MdP was inaugurated on the 14th of June 2010 (Maison de la Paix - Casa Universale delle Culture) in the historical building of the Grand Hotel de Londres in Naples.

The action of the Maison de la Paix - Casa Universale delle Culture aims at improving the main activities of the "Universal Forum of Cultures" in: Barcelona (2004), Monterrey (2007), Valparaiso (2010) and Naples (2013).

The Maison de la Paix performs most of the initiatives jointly with the Maison de la Méditerranée.

In recent weeks, the subject of Scampia Sails has strongly returned to the centre of the debate and of the interest of the citizens, also after the financing for the implementation of the RE-START Scampia project.
Overall strategies and visions for the recovery of the northern suburbs of Naples, in fact the geographical and potentially functional centre of the newly born Metropolitan city, require a comparison with models of social and cultural development that, cascade, can determine the strategies of transformation and recovery of the physical body of the city.
Also for these reasons, the Order of Architects Planners, Landscapes and Conservators of the Province of Naples decided to dedicate the conference to the theme "Periphery of Common Good" to the Museum of Peace - MAMT on the occasion of the ceremony for the proclamation of the Order's Senators.
On this occasion the President Michele Capasso - present, among others, the councillor to the municipality of Naples Carmine Piscopo and the president of the Municipality of Scampia Apostolos Palpais - proposed the Museum of Peace as a place of promotion of Scampia and the positive that exists in the neighborhood, as a symbol of the transformation in progress.

Accompanied by the deputy mayor of Iglesias Simone Franceschi and geologist Giampiero Pinna, President Capasso visited the Sardinian city and, especially, the wonders of the Mining Park: from Monteponi Mine - Pozzo Sella to Porto Flavia on the sea.
UNESCO World Heritage Site, the mines of Iglesias convey unique emotions: from mining wells to wooden models and, last but not least, the transport techniques that at the time were absolutely avant-garde.
President Capasso proposed to enhance the park with a program entitled "Sardinia of emotions" with the possibility to guard in this place - where there is no seismic, volcanic and geological risk - the findings, objects and memories that in many parts of Italy and the Mediterranean are at risk.
