THE MAISON DE LA PAIX

CASA UNIVERSALE DELLE CULTURE

The Maison de la Paix - Casa Universale delle Culture is a place strongly representative, in which will convey the knowledge of the different identities and cultures, structuring permanently initiatives aimed at the spreading of peace, necessary for the shared development.

The Maison de la Paix - Casa Universale delle Culture (MdP) is a project conceived by Michele Capasso, approved by many Countries and international organizations. It is an architecture that keeps the memory of many Peace activities which created history, often more than the wars, but it is – above all – a space "to build” Peace.

The architectonical complex has an important symbolic worth: it represents the Countries of the World engaged in the Peace process and the Countries victim of the conflicts.

Proposed by the Fondazione Mediterraneo with the Maison des Alliances – together with the main adherent organizations, such as the Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly, the League of Arab States, the "Anna Lindh" Euro-Mediterranean Foundation and others, the MdP represents a referent point for all the ones who dedicate their lives to peace.

The symbol of the MdP is the "Totem for Peace", an artwork by the Italian sculptor Mario Molinari which the Fondazione Mediterraneo is promoting all around the world, creating the network of the "Cities for Peace".

The first seat of the MdP was inaugurated on the 14th of June 2010 (Maison de la Paix - Casa Universale delle Culture) in the historical building of the Grand Hotel de Londres in Naples.

The action of the Maison de la Paix - Casa Universale delle Culture aims at improving the main activities of the "Universal Forum of Cultures" in: Barcelona (2004), Monterrey (2007), Valparaiso (2010) and Naples (2013).

The Maison de la Paix performs most of the initiatives jointly with the Maison de la Méditerranée.

The Secretary-General, Prof. Michele Capasso, the Council of Ambassadors and the members of the "United States of the World" and the "Fondazione Mediterraneo" express their deep condolences for the premature death of Dr. Franco Di Mare, a journalist who shared the Foundation's commitment to aiding the peoples of the former Yugoslavia and who dedicated his life to dialogue and peace.

Less than a year ago, on 30 June 2023, the naming ceremony of "Ambassador of the United States of the World for the Earth and for Peace" to the memory of CARLO ACUTIS took place in Scampia, for his being an exemplary model of values for the new generations and for those to come; present at the ceremony was Carlo's mother Mrs. Antonia Salzano Acutis who thanked him "for the high honour" and for the "good that the United States of the World does for humanity".
Mrs. Antonia Salzano Acutis recalled on that occasion the importance of the "United States of the World", which brings together 181 countries and more than 16,000 civil society organisations united to save the Earth and ensure Peace.
"The nomination to the memory of Carlo Acutis," we said on that occasion, "constitutes an important step in the path of Love and Peace undertaken for 35 years.
Mother Antonia on that occasion, donated a relic of her son to the Peace Museum, which is even more precious to us all today.
The Museum will host a room dedicated to Carlo with exhibits, videos and testimonies of the young man who dedicated his short life to Jesus with the motto "God not me".

"I am here to share!": with these words, at 8 a.m., Pope Francis lands in the women's prison of Giudecca.
We are invited to attend the Pope's brief visit at various stages: a small delegation from the "United States of the World" participates in the events that characterise an important day.
Pope Francis' visit lasts only five hours, enough, however, to write an important page of history for a city like Venice, already a destination for papal presences.
It begins well ahead of schedule, starting right from the Prison. For Pope Francis it is the first time in Venice, for the city it is the fourth Pope to visit it, the first ever to visit the Art Biennale. The route winds its way through calli and canals starting from the Holy See pavilion set up in the Giudecca prison.
