CASA UNIVERSALE DELLE CULTURE

The Maison de la Paix - Casa Universale delle Culture is a place strongly representative, in which will convey the knowledge of the different identities and cultures, structuring permanently initiatives aimed at the spreading of peace, necessary for the shared development.

The Maison de la Paix - Casa Universale delle Culture (MdP) is a project conceived by Michele Capasso, approved by many Countries and international organizations. It is an architecture that keeps the memory of many Peace activities which created history, often more than the wars, but it is – above all – a space "to build” Peace.

The architectonical complex has an important symbolic worth: it represents the Countries of the World engaged in the Peace process and the Countries victim of the conflicts.

Proposed by the Fondazione Mediterraneo with the Maison des Alliances – together with the main adherent organizations, such as the Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly, the League of Arab States, the "Anna Lindh" Euro-Mediterranean Foundation and others, the MdP represents a referent point for all the ones who dedicate their lives to peace.

The symbol of the MdP is the "Totem for Peace", an artwork by the Italian sculptor Mario Molinari which the Fondazione Mediterraneo is promoting all around the world, creating the network of the "Cities for Peace".

The first seat of the MdP was inaugurated on the 14th of June 2010 (Maison de la Paix - Casa Universale delle Culture) in the historical building of the Grand Hotel de Londres in Naples.

The action of the Maison de la Paix - Casa Universale delle Culture aims at improving the main activities of the "Universal Forum of Cultures" in: Barcelona (2004), Monterrey (2007), Valparaiso (2010) and Naples (2013).

The Maison de la Paix performs most of the initiatives jointly with the Maison de la Méditerranée.

 

The President of Palestine Mahmūd Abbās (Abū Māzen) received copies of  his books “La Grande Méditerranée” e “Nostro Mare Nostro” as gift from Michele Capasso. The books trans the major steps in the establishment and work of the Fondazione in the last twenty years in which it has dedicated every effort to the Palestinian cause.
A numerous Palestinian delegation attended  the ceremony led by the Palestinian Ambassador to Italy, Sabri Ateyehe, the Head of Palestinian Negotiations (former spokesman to Yasser Arafat) Saeb Erekat as well as ministers, diplomats and advisers to Abū Māzen.

The President of Palestine Mahmūd Abbās (Abū Māzen), in the EUROMEDCAFE, CASA TUA FOR PEACE space,  symbolically ate the  “Bread of Peace”, made using an ancient Palestinian recipe from the Forno di Bianchina, representing the symbol of peace and sharing: this ancient tradition can be traced back to the holy scriptures.
The President expressed his enthusiastic support for this initiative by the Fondazione Mediterraneo.
A numerous Palestinian delegation attended  the ceremony led by the Palestinian Ambassador to Italy, Sabri Ateyehe, the Head of Palestinian Negotiations (former spokesman to Yasser Arafat)  Saeb Erekat as well as ministers, diplomats and advisers to  Abū Māzen.
Members of the Fondazione Mediterraneo spoke at the ceremony, partners in the “EUROMEDCAFE, CASA TUA FOR PEACE” programme, together with delegations from various countries including diplomats and representatives from cultural, scientific, political, religious and military authorities from different countries as well as Mayors who support the “Totem for Peace” (author Mario Molinari).

Vittorio di Pace, 106 years young, and member of the Fondazione Mediterraneo, did not want to miss the historical appointment with Palestine. Lawyer  Gerardo Marotta, founder of the Istituto Italiano per gli Studi Filosofici, who attended the event with di Pace, emphasized the historical importance of the Palestinian population in philosophy and for the growth of the Western civilization.

The president of the Italian Institute for Philosophical Studies Gerardo Marotta, during a visit to the Fondazione Mediterraneo, paid tribute to the action of the president Michele Capasso in favor of peace and cooperation between peoples.
In particular, the lawyer Marotta, who has always been a supporter of the UNITED STATES OF EUROPE, was moved by visiting the Churchill Room - faithfully rebuilt as it was in the former Grand Hotel de Londres - and the room dedicated to Eleonora Pimentel Fonseca.
On this occasion, he donated autographed books, photographs of the Neapolitan meeting with Tito in 1944 and other objects that belonged to the great British statesman
