With approximately 200 titles, many of which were shown as international and national previews, the Trieste Film Festival has come to be known as the key event for central-east European cinema. Films compete in the full length feature films, short films and documentaries categories, but the festival also includes retrospectives and tributes and it is now a major venue for film lovers who consider it the show case for “New Europe” cinematography.

The Fondazione Mediterraneo has been collaborating with the Trieste Film Festival since1995, where it awards the Mediterranean Cinema Award to the best short film competing.

A “Mediterranean observatory on Mafias and Organized Crime” will be set up as a result of the initiative taken by the Fondazione Mediterraneo and the Fondazione Caponnetto. This project was proposed by the respective Presidents of the two organizations Michele Capasso and Salvatore Càlleri, which will come into being in the next few months.

On 4 January 2013, the XVIIIth Edition of the Epiphany Concert was held in Naples bringing the Christmas festivities to a close with the traditional message of peace and goodwill once again delivered and celebrated using music as an instrument for overcoming any barriers between race, culture and religion in the name of universal fraternity. The concert took place at the Teatro Mediterraneo in Naples and included a star-studded cast of international artists advocating the ideals of fraternity,.
On that occasion, nominations for the 2013 Mediterranean Awards were announced and some awards were conferred upon the winners.
