The International Conference on Sustainable Development in the Mediterranean Area took place at the seat of the Fondazione Mediterraneo. The Conference was organized by CITTAM (Università Federico II) in collaboration, among others, with the Fondazione Mediterraneo.
President Michele Capasso, Professors Dora Francese and Virginia Gangemi were among the international guests who spoke at the inaugural session.

President Michele Capasso together with Pia Molinari and members of the Executive Scientific Board expressed their profound condolences over the death of the Former President of the Italian Republic, Oscar Luigi Scalfaro. “He was a true statesman and served the common good”, declared Michele Capasso, “a man who believed that the “ethic” of the Constitution should be transmitted to young people as a value in its own right rather than merely as a legal instrument”. Michele Capasso concluded, “I will always remember the paternal affection with which, in the presence of Heads of States and Governments meeting in Naples under the auspices of the Fondazione Mediterraneo in 1997, he urged me to continue my journey as an architect of peace and dialogue”

The Fondazione Mediterraneo, together with the “Maison de la Paix - Casa Universale delle Culture” makes itself available for a Major Event: the decision of the Scientific Committee to strengthen the role of the City of Naples at international level.

The Executive Scientific Committee of the Fondazione Mediterraneo, which met in Rome on 26 and 27 January 2012 offered its support to the “Universal Forum of Cultures” to be held in Naples in 2013, by offering the skills and credibility of the Fondazione Mediterrano in promoting and adding value to this major event. The Fondazione has been supporting editions since 1997, including the promotion of international events such as Barcelona in 2004.
Due to the difficult economic period, which has resulted in drastic cuts to available resources, the Fondazione Mediterraneo is going to offer its own skills/equipment as well as the planning of the main events.

The Med News

At this year’s 23rd Edition of the Trieste Film Festival, about 200 films will be presented, making it the major film festival for Central and Eastern Europe. Moreover, many of the films will be shown as international and national previews.
Thanks to the diversity and interest generated by its programme, the event includes competition sectors for feature films, short films and documentaries, in addition to retrospectives and tributes.

The festival is a “must” for film lovers and a showcase for cinema in the “New Europe”.
The Fondazione Mediterraneo has been participating in the Trieste Film Festival since 1995, awarding the Mediterranean Cinema Prize for the best short film.
