The "United States of the World" organised and participated in various cities on five continents in the "57th World Day of Peace", bringing the experience of 35 years of the "Peace is Action" programme.
On this occasion, Secretary-General Prof. Michele Capasso recalled the words of Pope Francis in his message entitled: Artificial Intelligence and Peace.
"Artificial intelligence," writes Pope Francis, "must be understood as a galaxy of different realities and we cannot assume a priori that its development will make a beneficial contribution to the future of humanity and to peace among peoples. Such a positive outcome will only be possible if we show ourselves capable of acting responsibly and respecting fundamental human values such as 'inclusion, transparency, security, fairness, confidentiality and accountability'.
The themes of peace and artificial intelligence were the focus of Secretary-General Michele Capasso's start-of-year message and Father Ibrahim Faltas' appeal from the Holy Land.

THE FIRST TEN YEARS OF THE MUSEUM OF PEACE MAMT

Inaugurated on 20 December 2013, the Museum of Peace - MAMT (Mediterranean, Art, Music, Traditions) opened its doors to the public on 1 January 2014.
In these ten years - thanks to a 'cordate' of artists, critics, experts, donors, and representatives of institutions - it has been possible to realise a dream that has fascinated more than 100,000 visitors from all over the world, and, in particular, school students who have been able to enjoy a unique place between 'Chaos' and 'Wonder'.
The Museum of Peace - MAMT is housed in Naples in the historic building of the former 'Grand Hotel de Londres', opposite the central Piazza Municipio, a stone's throw from the cruise port and the new underground station designed by Alvaro Siza.
The Museum was created by the Fondazione Mediterraneo and the 'United States of the World' and is a place where collective memories, art collections, multimedia systems, music and events capture the visitor's imagination, guiding them through a unique emotional experience.
The main rooms of the Museum are named after the most important cities and countries of the Mediterranean and the world and have been inaugurated by their respective heads of state and government: examples include Presidents Gligorov (Republic of Macedonia), Cavaco Silva (Portugal); Erdogan (Turkey), Peres (Israel), Abu Mazen (Palestine), de Marco (Malta); Obama (USA), Juan Carlos (Spain), Rania of Jordan and others.
With 107 large video wall screens, the Museum is equipped with an unprecedented multimedia system: thanks to the new 4K technology, it is possible to enjoy videos, images and multimedia applications that capture the attention of visitors through a unique journey through history, geography, cultures, traditions, politics, religions, destiny...
The Museum of Peace preserves documents, objects and videos from many countries of the world, including gifts from heads of state and government who have visited the Foundation and the "United States of the World".

MESSAGE FOR THE NEW YEAR

The professor Michele Capasso - Secretary-General of the "United States of the World" and president of the "Fondazione Mediterraneo" - addressed, as usual, a message for the new year 2023.
The hope is that in this year we can reach a truce and then peace in Israel, Palestine, Ukraine and in other parts of the world through the enhancement of diversity.
“Only by tackling, solving and harmonizing diversity, conditions of misery, ignorance and injustice in the world - says prof. Capasso - it is possible to extinguish hotbeds of discord, riot, hatred; it must be understood that diversities, if harmonized, constitute a strength and a source of enrichment for all humanity, complementing each other instead of opposing each other. It is not a question of pursuing a system of universal harmony, as Fourier or Leibnitz wished, because we started from a pre-established universal harmony: the great inequalities existing between our brothers and sisters scattered throughout the world require our commitment to harmonize them. On this theme it is worth proposing an example: if in an orchestra everyone played on their own, a 'cacophony' would arise; if all the instruments were identical, it would be 'monotony'; the inequality of instruments and the harmonization of sounds is much better to arrive at a great ‘universal symphony’”.

CONDOLENCES FOR THE DEATH OF JACQUES DELORS

The Secretary-General Michele Capasso, the Council of Ambassadors, the Board of Directors with Pia Molinari and Jacopo Molinari, the International Committee, the delegates of the autonomous sections "Fondazione Mediterraneo", "United States of Europe", "Accademia del Mediterraneo", "Kimiyya" and "Almamed" and the heads of the branch offices express their deep condolences for the death of Jacques Delors, former President of the European Commission.
In his remarks, Secretary-General Michele Capasso recalled the friend and convinced Europesist, sharing the comments of Mario Draghi and other representatives of the European institutions in describing Delors as "the father of modern Europe: from the Maastricht Treaty to the Schengen Agreements, he presided over epoch-making changes that still define the European Union, its potential and its aspirations".
