Mario Molinari – The Sculptor of Color

Mario Molinari – born in Coazze (Turin) on the 9^th of March 1930 – begun his activity as director of the Sartorio paper mill in Coazze, then after three years of drawing lessons with the Master Raffaele Pontecorvo he turns to sculpture. His sculpture ironically stimulates the soul using the colour as a weapon, a power with which he can demolish the reality.

The versatility of the subjects and materials expressed in the round brings about his sculptures to the highest expression reaching the fourth dimension. Starting from the Sixties, his artistic path makes him a protagonist and founder of the surrealist group “Surfanta”.

In the following years he regularly attended Galleries, Museums as well as European and International Foundations, then he began with scenographic outdoor installations.

Molinari was a pioneer of that philosophy which brings the art literally “at the feet” of the people who, walking in the streets run into his imposing works made of coloured concrete, among astonishment and unbelief, they stand to do justice to human nature, unquenchable in its joy of living.

Such non conventional places as squares, harbours, rivers (river Po – Floating exhibition 1994) and hospitals, welcome Molinari in a symbiosis where one needs the other finding in this combination that nourishment necessary to live.
