 CASA UNIVERSALE DELLE CULTURE

The Maison de la Paix - Casa Universale delle Culture is a place strongly representative, in which will convey the knowledge of the different identities and cultures, structuring permanently initiatives aimed at the spreading of peace, necessary for the shared development.

The Maison de la Paix - Casa Universale delle Culture (MdP) is a project conceived by Michele Capasso, approved by many Countries and international organizations. It is an architecture that keeps the memory of many Peace activities which created history, often more than the wars, but it is – above all – a space "to build” Peace.

The architectonical complex has an important symbolic worth: it represents the Countries of the World engaged in the Peace process and the Countries victim of the conflicts.

Proposed by the Fondazione Mediterraneo with the “Maison des Alliances” – together with the main adherent organizations, such as the Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly, the League of Arab States, the "Anna Lindh" Euro-Mediterranean Foundation and others, the MdP represents a referent point for all the ones who dedicate their lives to peace.

The symbol of the MdP is the "Totem for Peace", an artwork by the Italian sculptor Mario Molinari which the Fondazione Mediterraneo is promoting all around the world, creating the network of the "Cities for Peace".

The first seat of the MdP was inaugurated on the 14th of June 2010 (Maison de la Paix - Casa Universale delle Culture) in the historical building of the Grand Hotel de Londres in Naples.

The action of the Maison de la Paix - Casa Universale delle Culture aims at improving the main activities of the "Universal Forum of Cultures" in: Barcelona (2004), Monterrey (2007), Valparaiso (2010) and Naples (2013).

The Maison de la Paix performs most of the initiatives jointly with the Maison de la Méditerranée.

Doctor Fabio Perricone donated his work entitled "Vesuvius" to president Michele Capasso.
 At the same time, Professor Abdelhak Azzouzi announced the forthcoming production of a docufilm entitled “THE STORY OF VESUVIUS.
THE IMPOSSIILE POSSIILE ": a simple testimony, a" collage "of some moments in Michele Capasso's life that demonstrate how indispensable it is today to act with determination to face the main challenges: climate change, destruction of creation, pandemics, social injustices.

CEREMONY FOR THE ASSIGNMENT OF THE "MARE NOSTRUM AWARD 2021"

The award ceremony of the XIIIth Edition of the “Mare Nostrum Award 2021” took place in Naples, at the Grand Hotel Vesuvio.
Created by “Grimaldi Magazine” Mare Nostrum Awards is dedicated to the promotion of the Motorways of the Sea. The goal is to enhance this exceptional opportunity for exchanges, connections and sustainable development for all the countries of the Mediterranean area.
The international jury of the Prize, chaired by the journalist Bruno Vespa and composed of important personalities from the world of culture and journalism, has decreed the following five winners, with a total prize money of 50 thousand euros:

  1. Concita Borrelli for the article "The sea awaits us, it will be a return to normality" published in "Il Messaggero";
  2. Morena Pivetti for the article "We must prepare well who comes after" published in "Fortune";
  3. Antonio Polito for the article "I miss the sea. Our raw material" published in "7 - Corriere della Sera";
  4. Alessio Postiglione for the article "Mare Nostrum, Italy still protagonist. Motorways of the sea" published in "Il Riformista";
  5. Marcello Sorgi for the article "Sink the Santamarina" published in "La Stampa".

The ceremony was presented by the conductor Massimo Giletti and saw the participation of personalities from the institutional, information and shipping world.
The special prize "Cavaliere del Lavoro Guido Grimaldi", established by the Grimaldi family in memory of the founder of the Grimaldi Group, was awarded to the journalist Daniele Manca, deputy director and columnist of Corriere della Sera.
Mare Nostrum Awards is an international journalistic award dedicated to the promotion of sea travel in the Mediterranean and in particular to the knowledge of the Motorways of the Sea, with the aim of enhancing commercial and cultural exchanges, maritime connections and sustainable development. Journalistic services, documentaries, television and radio services, photographic reports and economic-tourist surveys made in Italian, English, Spanish, Catalan, French or Greek and presented by authors residing in Italy, Spain, Greece, Tunisia and Morocco are admitted to the competition.
The 14th edition of the Mare Nostrum Awards will be launched in September 2021. The announcement will be published on the website of the Regional Orders of Journalists and on the websites of Grimaldi and the Fondazione Mediterraneo.
The International Jury of the Award is made up of leading exponents of journalism and culture. President is Bruno Vespa flanked, among others, by Vassiliki Armogeni, Greek journalist of Efoplistis magazine, Michele Capasso, President of the Mediterranean Foundation, Mimmo Jodice, photographer, Paul Kyprianou, former President of the RoRo European Shipowners Association, Rosalba Giugni, president of Marevivo.
The secretary of the Award is Luciano Bosso, journalist and editor of the Grimaldi Magazine Mare Nostrum.

Yemen, the most serious humanitarian crisis of our time.
The country is exhausted and the suffering suffered by the population has reached levels never seen before. The figures speak for themselves: 20.7 million people need humanitarian aid to survive.
Over 4 million people have been forced to flee their homes and are now displaced within national borders.
The escalation of the conflict has led to a dramatic increase in the prices of food and other raw materials.
Consequently, the main problem right now is the lack of food: around 16 million people suffer from hunger.
In some areas of the country, about 1 in 4 children suffer from acute malnutrition.

The Fondazione Mediterraneo participated in the 2021 edition of the States General of Culture: “The new frontiers of culture” organized by Sole 24 Ore.
The culture and entertainment sector has been one of the hardest hit by the containment measures introduced in the EU to curb the spread of the coronavirus. In recent months, limitations and 'pre-covid' business models have been exposed, but at the same time an incredible opportunity for renewal and reorganization has presented itself, for those who will be able to seize it.
On this occasion, the president Michele Capasso underlined that the profound cultural and technological changes require new professional figures, new investments, and a new widespread digital competence.
Internationalization, transmedia and new skills are some of the elements not to be underestimated for a sector that must transform in order to restart.

The president Michele Capasso and the members of the international committee of the Fondazione Mediterraneo express their deep condolences for the disappearance of Said Margoul.
President Capasso, after recalling the relations of fraternal friendship with Said since 1988 and the collaboration in numerous peace and cooperation initiatives, drew the profile of the "dear brother Said" who died at 65 in Marrakech.
"Member of the Mediterranean Foundation and main promoter of the Marrakech office since 1997, Said flew to the sky on the day in which the editing of the docufilm that summarizes 30 years of the Foundation is completed - said the president Capasso with emotion - and together with his wife Zora and to his sons Amine and Sarra, with his wisdom and serenity, he collaborated in the main moments of the Foundation and of the Marrakech office: in particular the delicate ones concerning the dialogue between Islam and the West.
In honor of him we dedicate the 30th anniversary film of the Foundation to him, leaving the initial montage he shared “intact”. To 'brother Said' goes the homage of the members of the Foundation, the directors of the branch offices and the members of the International Committee".
At the conclusion of the commemoration, the International Committee decided to hold a room in the Museum in Said Margoul.
