A delegation of the "United States of the World" participated in the demonstration for the "United States of Europe" in Rome.
Here is the statement by Secretary-General Michele Capasso:
‘For those who, like me, have been fighting to establish the "UNITED STATES OF EUROPE" within the framework of the "UNITED STATES OF THE WORLD" for forty years, with the help of my late brotherly friend Gerardo Marotta.
For those who, like me, have put every effort and every resource into warning of the danger for the new generations without a political Europe with common defence, foreign policy and economy.
For those who, like me, have appealed to all the presidents of the European Commission and Parliament since 1990.
For those who, like me, have lived through the horrors of war in Bosnia and other places in Europe and the world, up to the recent conflicts in Ukraine, Russia, Israel, Gaza.
To experience today's day promoted by the humorist journalist and writer Michele Serra, my peer, produced two opposite feelings.
The first, of hope, at the sight of thousands of people united by the single flag of Europe.
The second of disappointment, for the absence of the state and the states.
A similar demonstration, but extended to all the large cities of the 287 countries of the European Union, should have been called by the governments in response to the Russian and American drift.
Great sadness then for yet another bottle thrown into an endless sea that no one will ever pick up.
Back home I took refuge in a cluster of photos depicting the most significant moments of our battle for the UNITED STATES OF EUROPE.
In a folder I found two writings:
- The first is the Manifesto I wrote with Gerardo Marotta for the conference we organised in Naples in October 1995.
- The second is an excerpt from my speech at the plenary session of the European Parliament on 15 December 1996 in which - among other things - I state:
