THE FONDAZIONE SUPPORTS THE REBIRTH OF THE CITY OF L’AQUILA

On the third anniversary of the earthquake that destroyed L’Aquila, the Fondazione Mediterraneo – which has been on the front line helping its citizens since the disaster – lends it support to the cultural and scientific communities on the difficult route to rebuilding the city.
President Capasso, architect and engineer, stands by  those who are working to restore and return one of the most beautiful  and human historic centres to humanity.

Italy-Jordan: Napolitano, we trust in the role of Amman in the Middle East

The first official meeting for President Giorgio Napolitano during his three day visit to Jordan. The Head of State, accompanied by the Minister of foreign Affairs Giulio Terzi, was received at the King Abdallah II and Queen Rania’s Royal Palace in Amman. After the traditional welcome greeting, the Italian and Jordanian delegations had their first bilateral meeting. Napolitano pointed to “the deep and historic friendship” between the two countries. The Italian President also emphasized how “Italy and Europe counted on the role of Jordan in the region”, and “in the peace process in the Middle East”, especially given “the current situation”.
Napolitano will also meet the Jordanian Prime Minister
Awn Khasawneh, the Speaker of the Senate Taher Masri and the Speaker of the Lower House, Abdul Karim Doghmi.
The Fondazione Mediterraneo has a seat in Amman and has always had a special relationship with Jordan.

PRESIDENT CAPASSO MEETS VAUZELLE AND HOLLANDE

President Michele Capasso met the President of the PACA Region Michel Vauzelle and socialist candidate to the Presidency of the French Republic, François Hollande.
On that occasion, it was suggested that the Tricolour Totem for Peace should be created in France with the colours of the French flag.

THE TRICOLOUR TOTEM FOR THE CAPODIMONTE SEMINARY

After being placed in front of the Diocesan Museum of Naples for all 2011 – the year celebrating the 150th anniversary of the unification of Italy – the TRICOLOUR TOTEM FOR PEACE by Mario Molinari has found its place in the Archbishop’s Seminary of Naples.

The Fondazione participates in the 8th session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the UfM

The 8th Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean, held in Rabat on 24-25 March 2012, dedicated to the political challenges faced by the countries of the South Shore of the Mediterranean and the economic difficulties in which certain countries of the North Shore find themselves.
The Bureau of the Parliamentary Assembly of the UfM, which met on 17 February in Rabat, adopted a decision on the return of Libya to the UfM as an observer.
Examination of the dossier on Syria and the proposal for a logo for the Assembly – which the Fondazione has attended since 2004 -  will be studied at the forthcoming meeting of the Bureau.
The Fondazione Mediterraneo participated in the works represented by Driss Guerraoui, member of the Executive Committee.
The Assembly of the UfM was established in Naples at the seat of the Fondazione in 2003 under the co-presidency of Pat Cox and Abdelwahed Radi.

The Mediterranean diet: a healthy lifestyle for a better way of life

President  Michele Capasso was a speaker at the debate with the world of education on the question of “The Mediterranean diet as an expression of the culture of the Mediterranean peoples”.
Before a young audience, Capasso emphasized the importance of culture in building the sense of life and the future.

Meeting of the Steering Committee of the Italian Network

The Steering Committee of the Italian Network of the Anna Lindh Foundation met in Rome.
The aim of the meeting was to relaunch the Italian Network and coordinate is main activities.
The participants unanimously laid down the operative guidelines and shared the tasks among the four coordinators.

Vittorio Di Pace visits the Fondazione Mediterraneo

Architect Vittorio Di Pace, 105 years old, and promoter of the “Città Intertnica”, visited the Fondazione Mediterraneo and his “dearest friend and colleague Michele Capasso with his daughter Edith”.
Di Pace expressed his personal recognition and appreciation for the work carried out by President Capasso to promote peace and dialogue, defining him as “more than just a hero!”.

THE FONDAZIONE MEETS PRESIDENT BARZANI

The President of the Fondazione Mediterraneo Michele Capasso and Pia Molinari – Board member of the Fondazione – met with the President of the Region of Iraqi Kurdistan Massoud Barzani, accompanied by a delegation of ministers and Head of Cabinet Fuad Hussein.
On that occasion, President Barzani adhered to the “Totem for Peace” project guaranteeing the support of his country in the hope that the monumental work would be constructed in the capital, Erbil, and dedicated to the martyrs of Kurdistan.
President Capasso invited President Barzani to Naples during the Universal Forum of Cultures and offered to create areas in the “Maison de la Méditerranée” that would narrate both the history and future of Kurdistan, as well as speak of the historical and archeological importance of Erbil, the oldest city in the world.
At the end of the meeting, President Barzani wrote a dedication in the book of honour of the Fondazione Mediterraneo expressing his appreciation for the work carried out to promote peace and the Fondazione’s appeal for the cause of Kurdistan and against genocide.
