DON PEPPE DIANA RECALLED WITH A SPECIAL DAY AT THE MUSEUM OF PEACE MAMT IN THE ANNIVERSARY OF DEATH

Don Peppe Diana was remembered 23 years after the barbaric assassination with a series of events in the Museum of Peace - MAMT where there is a permanent section dedicated to him.
Don Peppe Diana was killed by the Camorra on March 19,1994 in his church in Casal di Principe, while he was about to celebrate mass. The murderers did not content themselves with chilling him, they also wanted to burn his body with further shots of gun at the lower abdomen to falsely indicate a sexual motive and thus try to prevent it from becoming the symbol of the ransom of a people harassed by organized crime. A largely successful operation in fact, if it took 21 years for the diocese of Aversa to decide to ask the Holy See to initiate the cause of beatification that must recognize the martyrdom of Don Peppe.
The reasons for which the parish priest of Casal di Principe was killed came to light in the trial that condemned his murders, but only in the second degree and then in the Supreme Court, when the judges overturned the sentence of first degree and ruled against the hypothesis of custody by the parish priest of weapons, a fact that had triggered the mud machine against Don Diana, making the image of a priest close to the people prevail.
According to the reconstruction of Fr Diana, Father Diana refused to celebrate the funeral in church of a criminal, and this gesture was considered too hard to bear.
Three days later the grandson of the dead, in fact, entered the sacristy and fired at the priest.
Don Diana pursued the obstinate defence of his boys exposed to the evil of corruption and delinquency. And the spiritual testament "For the love of my people I will not silence" is a manifesto that commits not to remain silent in the face of "any ambiguous compromise or unjust privilege".

In the Vesuvius Hall of the Museum of Peace - MAMT, the book by Anna Ausilia Ranieri "THOSE ANCIENT GESTURES" (editor Serarcangeli) was presented. The author was accompanied by President Michele Capasso, the journalist Vincenzo Colimoro and literary critic Antonella Viggiani.
More than 150 participants crowded the hall and, before the presentation, visited the Peace Museum - MAMT.

SALESIAN COMMITMENT TO MIGRANTS AT THE INTERNATIONAL FORUM "MIGRATION AND PEACE"

(ANS - Vatican City) - The Salesians are children of a migrant, Don Bosco, who came from the rural areas of Castelnuovo d' Asti and moved to Turin. Its first recipients were young migrants and the first missionaries in Argentina had to take care of Italian migrants. But above all, today, Salesians work with and for migrants, especially children and young people, on all continents.
That's why the Salesians have spoken at the International Forum "Migration and Peace", which is taking place these days (21-22 February) in the Vatican.
The event, organized by the Ministry for the Service of Integral Human Development, the "Scalabrini International Migration Network" (SIMN) and the "Konrad Adenauer Foundation", yesterday also saw the intervention of Pope Francis, who welcomed the participants in the Clementine Room. In his speech, the Pontiff asked to be close to the people who flee from situations of danger by proposing four key words: welcoming, protecting, promoting and integrating.
For their part, Don Martín Lasarte and Don George Menamparampil, Salesians, of the Sector for Missions, had the opportunity to present the approach and the different articulations of the work of the Sons of Don Bosco with migrants. They are privileged recipients of the Salesian mission, given that more than half of the 65.3 million refugees/populated (UNHCR data) are minors and the other half are mostly young, i. e. the first beneficiaries of the Salesiancharism.
In the various Salesian presences - schools, vocational training centres, oratories, social works and parishes - there are about 10.6 million people in direct contact in more than 130 countries around the world, of whom it is estimated that 16% are refugees, internally displaced persons or first or second generation immigrants. In Italy, for example, in the 50 vocational training centres, migrants account for 20% of students.
The Salesian mission therefore involves some 1.7 million people in a situation of human mobility, including some 400,000 refugees/populated persons/asylum seekers.
Interventions against them, without excluding emergency operations whenever necessary, have as their priority the development of educational processes that, within a sufficient time span, can offer migrants the means to integrate themselves into the world of work and therefore into host societies.
On the other hand, Salesians also work to transmit to host societies the values of solidarity proper to the Gospel.
They also work with specific initiatives to combat the phenomenon of trafficking in human beings, such as those of the NGO "People's Action for Rural Awakening" in the Indian region; or "Stop Treatment", in collaboration with the NGO "International Volunteering for Development" in West Africa and Ethiopia.
Finally, the Salesian side also noted the need to strengthen and make more systematic at a global level the collaboration with other Catholic institutions active in the same sector.
FROM NAPOLI TO VIETNAM: THE ELDEST RECTOR CONTINUES HIS MISSION FOR YOUNG PEOPLE

Immediately after the Neapolitan day for the inauguration of the virtual Salesian Oratory, the Rector Major of the Salesians Don Ángel Fernández Artime, accompanied by Don Václav Klement, councillor for the region of East Asia-Oceania, and by his Secretary, Don Horacio López, embarked on a multi-stage journey with final destination in Dalat.
First Don Á. F. Artime met the Daughters of Maria Ausiliatrice in Tam Ha; he greeted the migrant students of the school and spoke with the religious about the richness of communion in the Salesian Family. Then, after a brief flight, he reached the parish "Maria Ausiliatrice" in Lien Khuong, where he met with more than 500 members of the Salesian Family, in a festive animated encounter with dances, songs and cultural events. Only in the evening did the Rector Major reach the "Don Rua" community in Dalat, where he offered the thought of the Salesian "good night".
On the morning of Friday 24 February, the 10th Successor of Don Bosco had the second meeting with the Salesians. According to Don Á. F. Artime are these are the most important moments of his animation visits, and it can be calculated that in the first 3 years of the sexennium he met face to face already 7,200 Salesians.
There are many ideas offered during the meeting. On the theme of communication, the Rector Major recalled that "the Church in the world needs visibility, and we too, as a Congregation, need to make known the so much good that we do. It is important to give a hand to the action of Providence, but always with great humility ".
He then expressed great appreciation for the charismatic rooting of the Salesians of the province, with the presence of many Salesians Coaddiutors and many missionaries ad gentes.
From a future perspective, he said:"The most dangerous thing is to be satisfied with what has always been done in the past. (....) As Pope Francis repeats, attentive to the temptations of clericalism: grow as Salesians, generous and committed! (....) For the future it is necessary to think about new works in the North and different expressions of the educational mission ".
Finally, a special mention addressed it to the various Salesian parish priests present:"Do not be afraid that your parish may be profoundly Salesian - it is the desire of the Bishops and the Church! (....) Each of the more than 2200 Salesian parishes is entrusted to the Congregation and the local community, not personally to the parish priest. This Community responsibility is a guarantee of Salesian identity.
The Rector Major met about 1200 young people from Salesian works in the area.
XITH PLENARY ASSEMBLY OF THE PARLIAMENTARY ASSEMBLY OF THE MEDITERRANEAN

The Fondazione Mediterraneo, which was the first observer member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean, took part in the work of - and contributed its 20 years’ experience in building peace and dialogue to - the 11th Plenary Session of PAM. Moreover, the idea for PAM began in Naples in the headquarters of the Fondazione itself.
