THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE TOTEM OF PEACE IN ERBIL CELEBRATED

The president of the Fondazione Mediterraneo Michele Capasso with Pia Molinari - member of the board of the Foundation - celebrated the 9th anniversary of the "Totem of Peace" in Iraqi Kurdistan, in Erbil.
"Nine years ago - President Capasso recalls - we met the President of the Iraqi Kurdistan region Massoud Barzani in Erbil, accompanied by a delegation of Ministers and by the Chief of Staff Fuad Hussein.
On that occasion, President Barzani joined the "Totem of Peace" project, ensuring the support of his country. Mario Molinari's sculptural work - Totem of Peace - was presented in several events held on the anniversary of the Halabja genocide and was recognized as a symbol to represent the martyrs of Kurdistan and, recently, the Christian ones of Mosoul.
An important recognition also in consideration of Pope Francis' recent visit to Mosul and his call to peace and interreligious dialogue of which the "Totem of Peace" is a symbol".

The Fondazione Mediterraneo, the Anna Lindh Italy Federation and other member organizations and associations celebrated Women's Day at the Museum of Peace - MAMT with webinar links in various Mediterranean countries. Despite the restrictions due to the spread of the coronavirus, thanks to the videoconferencing systems present on the various floors of the museum, it was possible to connect with various Euro-Mediterranean countries and, in particular, with those adhering to the "Kimiyya" program launched in 2017 by the Mediterranean Foundation.
President Capasso thanked the women of the various countries who collaborated and, in particular, all the women involved in the front line in the care of the sick caused by the spread of the coronavirus epidemic.

The president Michele Capasso, the Board of Directors, the International Committee and the heads of the branch offices of the Foundation are close and express their deep condolences to the whole "Anna Lindh Foundation" for the death of the executive director Nabil Al-Sharif.
The Fondazione Mediterraneo - one of the founders of the Anna Lindh Foundation - is close to all the members of the secretariat and to the leaders of the national networks in this moment of deep condolences.
A thought and a hug to the family of dr. Nabil Al-Sharif.

The Fondazione Mediterraneo sponsored the free webinar "SOUND and MEDICINE" coordinated by dr. Fabio Perricone and by dr. Marco Lombardi. The webinar aimed to:
- stimulate and encourage the musical sense of the person
- provide basic elements on the use of music in medicine
- support conventional medical therapy
- to report on applications of music to some branches of medicine

The Pope's trip to Iraq was important for various reasons, both political and religious, but one of them stands out: having wrested the region from the resignation of conflicts and blood, terrorism and the law of interference by the strongest, 'impotence of diplomacy and law; all the more so at a time when the traumatic impact of the pandemic contributes to canceling the other crises of the contemporary world.
Francis, on the other hand, not only took a historic step in interreligious dialogue by meeting one of the greatest authorities of Shiite Islam, the great Ayatollah Ali al Sistani, but he reaffirmed the principles of equality between all the ethnic, social and religious components of the country on citizenship; on this path he was accompanied by Al Sistani himself who in a declaration wished to ensure his commitment so that "Christian citizens live like all Iraqis in peace and security, with all their constitutional rights".
THE CHURCHILL ROOM OF THE MUSEUM OF PEACE: A UNIQUE TESTIMONY OF HISTORY

The "Churchill Room" of the Museum of Peace - MAMT represents a unique testimony of history that attracts visitors, even remotely, from all over the world.
Within these walls, the great statesman laid the foundations for the historic speech on the "United States of Europe" and many "European" visitors reread the text next to the historic desk.
Among objects, artifacts, videos, rare documents and so on, there are also high-definition reproductions of the main paintings by Winston Churchill.
Among these the latest recently sold at auction: the view of Marrakech made by the former British premier in January 1943, until now part of the art collection of Angelina Jolie who received it as a gift in 2011 from her ex-husband Brad Pitt .
"The tower of the Koutoubia mosque" - whose high definition image can be enjoyed in the Museum, along with other paintings by the statesman such as the famous view of the Pompeii excavations - was sold for 7 million pounds in London by the auction house Christie's.
President Capasso retraces the history of the painting: "Churchill, in love with Marrocco, gave 'The tower of the Koutoubia mosque' to the US president, his ally, Franklin D. Roosevelt, during the Second World War. Churchill visited Morocco for the first time in 1935 and fell in love with it for the quality of the light he found there. The work, which bears the initials W.S.C, was donated by Churchill to Roosevelt after the Casablanca conference of 1943, in which they agreed on the strategy to defeat Nazi Germany, and on the eve of the Neapolitan stay at the Grand Hotel de Londres. After ten days at the summit, the British leader invited his North American counterpart to accompany him to visit one of his favorite places, stating: 'You can't go as far as North Africa without seeing Marrakech [...]. I have to be with you when you see the sunset over the Atlas Mountains, "the British Prime Minister told the US president. After five hours of travel, the two leaders arrived in the Moroccan city and Roosevelt was so fascinated by that sunset that the premier did not hesitate to extend his stay in Marrakech to immortalize the scene and offer it as a souvenir to the American president. Sir Winston Churchill had started painting Moroccan scenes after being encouraged to visit the country by his painting master, Sir John Lavery. On his first visit in 1935, he felt that the light and the landscape were unrivaled, creating some 45 paintings of the country. "The tower of the Koutoubia mosque" stands out as the only painting created between 1939 and 1945. When Roosevelt died the painting was inherited by his son and has since passed through the hands of various owners until 2011, when it was acquired. by Brad Pitt ”.

Great influx of links and contacts on the multimedia platform of the Museum of Peace - MAMT for the centenary of the birth of Giulietta Masina.
100 years ago in San Giorgio di Piano, a stone's throw from Bologna, Giulietta Masina was born, the unforgettable muse of Federico Fellini who would take leave of the stage lights on 23 March 1994, a few months after the death of her husband, the great Rimini.
The daughter of a violinist and a teacher, Giulietta grew up in Rome as a guest of a Milanese aunt who was widowed. She attends schools in an Ursuline college where she becomes familiar with the stage, in school plays and then at the university theater Ateneo. You began working on the radio in 1942, paired with the famous announcer Angelo Zanobini.
The two interpret the popular adventures of Cico and Pallina (first engaged and then newlyweds) in the column "Il terziglio": the skits are written by a very young Federico Fellini. Juliet marries him a year later, on 30 October 1943.
In 1945, after the dramatic mourning for the loss of her son Pier Federico who died just 11 days after her birth, Giulietta graduated in literature and returned to the theater paired with a very young Marcello Mastroianni with Leo Ferrero's "Angelica". She then she chooses the radio again with the new "Adventures of Cico and Pallina" and snatches a part in "Paisà" by Roberto Rossellini.

The president Michele Capasso, the members of the Executive Council and the International Scientific Committee, the heads of the Autonomous Sections of the Mediterranean Foundation express deep condolences for the death of the Italian Ambassador Luca Attanasio and of the soldier of the Carabinieri.
The two were traveling aboard a car in a MONUSCO convoy, the United Nations organization's mission for stabilization in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

In connection from Naples with the House of Prayer of San Biagio (Subiaco) there was a moment of remembrance entitled “Let's remember” on the occasion of the first anniversary of the ascent to heaven of Sister Maria Pia Giudici. Connected from various countries of the world, the "Sanbiagini" recalled their experience with Sister Maria Pia by tracing the path of a long and particular life, dedicated to Jesus and the Gospel. Images, poems, paintings, books, interviews and much more detailed the path of a nun who was an example for many.
The president Michele Capasso, moved, recalled her long affectionate friendship with Sister Maria Pia and the example of a simple life in joy, well summarized in the film "MARIA PIA GIUDICI: JOY IN A SIMPLE LIFE". On this occasion, Sister Maria Pia's visits to the Don Bosco Museum and Chapel were remembered.

At the Museum of Peace - MAMT we remembered Sister Maria Pia Giudici on the first anniversary of her ascent to heaven. Images, poems, paintings, books, interviews and much more on the large video walls of the Museum have told the long life of a nun who made the Gospel and Love for Jesus the foundation of her existence.
The president Michele Capasso, moved, recalled the long affectionate friendship with Sister Maria Pia and the example of a simple life in joy, well summarized in the film "MARIA PIA GIUDICI: JOY IN A SIMPLE LIFE".
On 21.02.2021 in connection with the San Biagio House of Prayer (Subiaco) there will be a moment of collective remembrance.
On this occasion, the visits of Sister Maria Pia to the Don Bosco Museum and Chapel were remembered.
