ALF Italian Network: Coordination Meeting of Regione Sicilia

The Coordination Meeting of the Italian Network of "Anna Lindh" Euro-Mediterranean Foundation for the Dialogue between Cultures of Regione Sicilia was held in Palermo. On that occasion – in the presence of Piera Raimondi, assistant of the president of Fondazione Mediterraneo, Head of the Italian Network – it was submitted and discussed the report "Euromed Intercultural Trends 2010"; members were required to confirm their participation in the ALF Italian Network; the common programme 2010-2011 "Meeting Minorities" was illustrated.

CE.S.I.E., Narramondi Onlus Association, COPPEM, HRYO Association and the Centro Creativo Danilo Dolci declared their availability to create a consortium to carry out some of the actions laid down in the "Meeting Minorities" Programme.

22nd Edition of Trieste Film Festival

With about 200 films, many of which as international and national previews, the Trieste Film Festival is the main Italian event concerning the cinema of Centre-Eastern Europe, this year at its 22nd edition, rendering homage to the master of Slovakian cinema Dušan Hanák.

Thanks to the variety and interest of its programme, including feature films, short films and documentaries participating in the competition, retrospectives, homages, the festival is nowadays recognised as an event not to be lost as well as a show off for the cinema of the “New Europe”.

The Fondazione Mediterraneo has been cooperating with the Trieste Film Festival since 1995, granting the Mediterranean Cinema Award to the best short film.

Grief over the death of Giovanni Farace

The President of Fondazione Mediterraneo Michele Capasso expressed his grief over the death of Giovanni Farace, president of Associazione Leucosia and Coordinator of ALF Italian Network  of Regione Campania, remembering his activity for the dialogue between cultures and for peace.

The Coordination Meeting of the Italian Network of "Anna Lindh" Euro-Mediterranean Foundation for the Dialogue between Cultures of the Regions Emilia Romagna and Marche was held in Bologna. On that occasion – in the presence of Michele Capasso, president of Fondazione Mediterraneo, Head of the Italian Network – it was submitted and discussed the report "Euromed Intercultural Trends 2010"; members were required to confirm their participation in the ALF Italian Network; the common programme 2010-2011 "Meeting Minorities" was illustrated.

The Province of Ancona, the Associazione Orlando from Bologna and "Dama Sognatrice s.n.c." from Ravenna declared their availability to create a consortium to carry out some of the actions laid down in the "Meeting Minorities" Programme.

The FM launches a Programme of initiatives "FOR NAPLES"

The Fondazione Mediterraneo have accepted the appeal by cardinal Crescenzio Sepe for a good governance and a shared development of the city and proposes the pluri-annual Programme FOR NAPOLES in order to enhance the skills and examples of good practice, through a coordinated network action.

The President Michele Capasso – who participated at the opening torchlight for the “Jubilee for Naples 2011” – convened the International Scientific Committee, representants from other seats and delegates from other networks who accepted unanimously to participate to the pluri-annual Programme FOR NAPLES which sees the Fondazione Mediterraneo at the forefront to contribute, with ideas and concrete actions, to the rebirth, the good governance and the eco-sustainable development of the city of Naples.

Concretely the Fondazione Mediterraneo will involve its international network and the experts participating in the International Scientific Committee in order to bring in international forums the main problems that afflict the citywaste, traffic, unemployment, social unrest, new poverty and new needs, mobility, parking, promotion of culture and tourism, etc... – and get operational proposals which will be published on a special web site and, therefore, available online.

Declaration of "Anna Lindh" Foundation on the criminal attempt in Alexandria

The"Anna Lindh" Euromediterranean Foundation for Dialogue between Cultures,  whose Central Office is in Alexandria, expresses its deep sorrow for the terrorist attack  made against this city in the night of December 31st, and also expresses  the solidarity of its  President, André Azoulay, and of all his staff with the victims, their families and the Egyptian people.

Fondazione Valenzi and Fondazione Mediterraneo launch a programme of initiatives for Naples

The Fondazione Valenzi and the Fondazione Mediterraneo have accepted the appeal by the President of the Republic Giorgio Napolitano and launched a programme of initiatives and of civil commitment for Naples. The two Foundations, recognizing a political-cultural convergence, shared values, shared aims and the essential roles of memory and of civil and social commitment, have signed a protocol of agreement, which will come into force starting from tomorrow.

The first objective is to prepare the multi-year programme “FOR NAPLES” aiming at the creation of a technical place for discussing the problems and challenges of the territory in order to contribute to the renascence of the city.
The agreement also provides that the President of Fondazione Mediterraneo Michele Capasso and the responsible for institutional relations Claudio Azzolini will be members of the Orientation Committee of the Fondazione Valenzi and that the President of Fondazione Valenzi Lucia Valenzi and the Secretary General Roberto Race will be members of the Scientific Committee of the
Fondazione Mediterraneo.

The agreement provides for the planning and carrying out of studies and proposals on the subject of development and democracy in Naples, in Campania, in Southern Italy and in Italy, particularly with regard to the wider Mediterranean region, as well as for the planning and carrying out of studies on the transformation processes of Italy, with particular interest for the changes in social composition, economic development, social and environmental policies.
The first initiative will be “Memoriae”: the event organized for the Memorial Day, now at its second edition. This year the event, organized in collaboration with ALI Association, will be held on February 7th and will be coordinated by the journalist Nico Pirozzi, also author of the new edition of the text by Maurizio Valenzi “Italian Jews Facing Racism”, published in Tunisia in 1938.

6° Euromed Award Ceremony assigned to DEVELOPMENT NO BORDERS

Development No Borders is the winner of Euro-Med Award 2010.
Award Ceremony took place in Cracow on 22 october 2011 in Municipality Building at the presence of Ambassadors from 43 Countries joining Union For Mediterranean and members from Anna Lindh Foundation Board of Governor. 
Joined to the ceremony Andreu Claret, Anna Lindh Foundation Director, Michele Capasso, Fondazione Mediterraneo’s President, Pia Molinari – member of Fondazione Mediterraneo and responsable for the project “Totem for Peace” – and exponents of European Commission, European Parliament and members of Polish Alf Network.

Joined as spokepeople of round table “Culture for Social Change”: Raj Isar, Grzegorz Klaman, Mohamed El Sawy, Monika Smolen.
Joined coordinators from 43 National Networks of Anna Lindh Foundation.
Euromed Award this year has as theme “For Citizenship and Freedom” and has been assigned to Amr Shaaban, Development No borders’s Chairman whom thanked and presented association’s aims.
On this occasion, the titles of "Standard Bearers United States of the World" were conferred on young and female environmentalists from Arab countries.

Euromed Award 2010 to ECOPEACE Friends of the Earth Middle East

ECOPEACE Friends of the Earth Middle East, winner of the Euro-Med Award for Dialogue 2010, received the award on December the 3rd during a prestigious Bestowing Ceremony held in Brussels.

The ceremony was attended by André Azoulay, President of the Anna Lindh Foundation and Michele Capasso, President of Fondazione Mediterraneo, in addition to representatives of the European Commission, European Parliament, International Environmental and Peace Organizations including WWF Europe, Friends of the Earth Europe, Greenpeace International, European Environment Bureau, European Peacebuilding Liaison Office, the coordinators of the 43 Civil Society Networks of the Anna Lindh Foundation and diplomatic figures.

The ceremony was followed by a debate on the theme “Can Intercultural Dialogue Prepare Social Change to Address the Ecological Challenge” .The debate was moderated by Olaf Gerlach-Hansen, Director of Culture|Futures (Denmark).

ECOPEACE Friends of the Earth Middle East, is jointly established by environmentalists from Palestine, Jordan and Israel and member of Friends of the Earth International, the largest grassroots environmental organization in the world. FoEME is a civil society organization, conducting trans-boundary research projects and promoting cross border dialogue for ecological sustainability in the region, a fair share of natural resources of the Jordan Valley, and a just peace.

IX Meeting of the ALF Heads of National Networks

SThe 9th meeting of ALF National Networks Heads was held in Brussels, from 2nd through 4th December 2010.

President Michele Capasso and the assistant to network coordination Piera Raimondi were present on behalf of Fondazione Mediterraneo, head of the Italian Network.

The subjects discussed on that occasion were the following:
- Objectives and Strategies 2011-2014
- Budget 2011
- Network development

One of the subjects was the ALF Report presented in Rome on 25th November 2010.
