Mediterranean Parliaments award a prize to the Fondazione Mediterraneo

At the Plenary Session of the  Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM), convening  at the seat of the Regional Assembly of Sicily in the historical Palazzo dei Normanni in Palermo, the outgoing PAM President, Abdelwahed Radi, awarded the PAM Prize to the Fondazione Mediterraneo. President Radi was recently elected as the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the international organization  that unites parliaments from all over the world.

The inscription reads, “On the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the Fondazione Mediterraneo, for its commitment to promoting intercultural dialogue throughout the Mediterranean and for its support towards the establishment and activities of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean”.

President Radi made the following remarks: “This [prize] is made in recognition of Michele Capasso’s having dedicated his life to building prosperity and democracy in the Mediterranean basis. He is a true soldier working relentlessly to achieve the goal of bringing peoples, civilizations and cultures closer together. This prize is only a small token compared to the enormous contribution made by Michele and he deserves much greater recognition for the quality and quantity of his action. It is therefore our wish that such recognition will soon be forthcoming”.

Congratulations were also received from delegations of various countries, including  from Michel Vauzelle, President of the PACA Region and the Jordanian President of PAM, Fayez Tarawneh.

President Vauzelle celebrates 20 years of Fondazione Mediterraneo

President of Region PACA – Provence, Alpes Marittimes et Cote d’Azur – Michel Vauzelle expressed his appreciation for the twenty years anniversary of Fondazione Mediterraneo.

“I’ve been knowing Michele Capasso for 20 years and together have been shared the same efforts for dialogue and peace in Mediterranean. First as Foreign Affairs Ministry and later as parliamentar, and as last, as President of a region deeply Mediterranean, I hope that the amazing work done by Michele Capasso and by Fondazione Mediterraneo can found the owed award.  In this crucial moment for the Mediterranean, person as Michele Capasso, are worthy for the establishment of peace and shared development.”

Morocco celebrates 20 years of Fondazione Mediterraneo

The Morocco Parliament president Abdelwahed Radi, Ambassador in Italy Hassan Abouyoub and the Moroccan parliamentars whom joined to the Mediterranean Parliamentar Assembly payed homage to Fondazione Mediterraneo and its president Michele Capasso in occasion of the twenty years anniversary from the institution’s establishment.

The APM General Secretary Sergio Piazzi declared:

“ Fondazione is a useful tool of dialogue between cultures and Mediterranean Parliamentar Assembly is proud to have as first observer  Fondazione which started to play an important role in the region.”.

6th Plenary Meeting of Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly

It took place in Palermo the 6th Plenary Meeting of Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly headed by Abdelwahed Radi.
Parliamentars of several Mediterranean Countries decided to celebrate the  21 March as Mediterranean Day”, giving particular attention to migrants who are losing their life in the sea. In several countries, on March 21th events will took place.
The president of Fondazione Mediterraneo Michele Capasso – observer member -joined plenary meeting highlighting the historical importance of this period, characterized by “Arab Spring” and responsibilities of parliamentary “democratically” elected.
In this occasion President Capasso proposed to gather, in a special meeting ad “hoc”, the Assembly in occasion of year 2013, when the city of Naples will host the “Universal Forum of Cultures”.
APM thanked  to the Fondazione Mediterraneo’s whom hosted the assembly on june 2005.

President Capasso meets the new PAM President

Fayez Al-Tarawneh, the former Prime Minister  of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, is the new President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean, after being unanimously elected on 29th October 2011.

During the meeting, President Capasso emphasized the key role played by the Assembly in the Mediterranean and spoke of its traditional links with Jordan.

The "Totem of Peace" in the Valley of the Temples

After reading the "Declaration of Agrigento" for peace and friendship among the peoples of the Mediterranean, Senator Benedetto Adragna - Commissioner of the Senate of the Republic - announced the next realization in the Valley of the Temples of the monumental work "Totem of Peace" "Of the Molinari sculptor.

"I thank the Fondazione Mediterraneo, the president Michele Capasso and Pia Molinari for having given the possibility to Agrigento to act as a City for Peace".

President Capasso expressed his emotion "because alongside the wonders of humanity, constituted by the Temples, the Totem for Peace will rise as a symbol of brotherhood and cooperation among the peoples of the Mediterranean".

Present at the ceremony were Mr Antonio Martino, president of the parliamentary delegation to the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the delegations of parliamentarians from the Mediterranean countries meeting in Palermo in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean, which from the beginning unanimously supported the project of the "Totem of the Peace".

Fondazione Mediterraneo supports Agrigento declaration

Fondazione Mediterraneo supports “Agrigento Declaration” for peace and friendship between Mediterranean population, sponsored by senator Benedetto Adragna – Commissioner of Republic Senate. Among the initiatives there is the next realization in Valle dei Templi, the monumental art work  “Totem for Peace” by Molinari.
“I thank the Fondazione Mediterraneo, president Michele Capasso and Pia Molinari whom gave the possibility to Agrigento to set it up as City for Peace”.
Joined to ceremony the Honourable  Antonio Martino, president of Interparliamentar Union Delegation and parliamentar delegations of Mediterranean countries.

Meeting with IOM on the project about migrants

The leader of Italian Network ALF Michele Capasso and coordinator of Sicily Vito La Fata had a meeting with head office of IOM (International Organization for Migration) Peter Shatzer in order to illustrate the project “Nostro Mare Nostro” proposed in 10° meeting of Leaders in Cracow held between 20-23 october 2011, of agreement of Algeria, Tunis, Morocco, France and  Lybia.

Doctor Shatzer expressed his consensus to the initiative which involves Lampedusa Municipality and other.

Mare Nostrum Award Jury’s Meeting 2011

On Tuesday  26 october 2011 in  Naples – in the headquarter of FONDAZIONE MEDITERRANEO – MAISON DES ALLIANCES – took place the Jury’s Meeting for the assignment of Mare Nostrum Award 2011.
The contest, published by Grimaldi Lines, is reserved to professionals journalists, experts and media’s workers which in the period between 1° march to 15 september had published «at least one article about sea routes».

The contest, at the third edition, has a prize money of  50mila euro, 10mila for everyone of five winners.
The award prize «aims to value  maritime routes on Mediterranean area, compared to other transportation, in particular the terrestrial ones. Supported by a clear strategy by European Commission, the so called Sea Highways for cargo traffic and passengers, are an extraordinary tool for social and economical cohesions for Shore countries».


Mare Nostrum Awards’ jury is head by Folco Quilici.Along with him, other important exponents from culture and journalism: Brahi Aouam, Tunisian Republic consolus in Naples, Vassiliki Armogeni, greek journalist from Efoplistis magazine, Michele Capasso, president of Fondazione   Mediterraneo, Diana De Feo, Rai journalist , Enric Juliana, vicedirector of Spanish newspaper La Vanguard, Ship owners  Ro/Ro, Virman Cusenza, director of the Naples newspaper “Il Mattino” .
