THE TRICOLOUR TOTEM FOR PEACE AT THE ITALIAN EMBASSY IN BAKU

The President of the Fondazione Mediterraneo Michele Capasso, was welcomed by the Italian Ambassador in Baku, Mario Baldi, during his visit to Azerbaijan.
At the meeting, a copy of the “Tricolour Totem for Peace” by the sculptor Mario Molinari, made for the 150th Anniversary of the Unification of Italy, was presented to the Italian Embassy.
On that occasion, the possibility of creating the monumental work of art was discussed, to further strengthen relations between the two countries.

THE PRESIDENT CAPASSO ATTENDS THE CRANS MONTANA FORUM

The President of the Fondazione Mediterraneo Michele Capasso was invited by Government of Azerbaijan to participate in the 23rd edition of the Crans Montana Forum in Baku (Azerbaijan).
Michele Capasso was one of the main speakers at this exceptional and unique global event, which, this year, chose as its theme Public and Private Governance in Energy Policy.
In fact, Michele Capasso spoke at the sessions dedicated to Energy Policy and Women.

THE163 YEARS OF THE ARCHITECTS “OF PEACE”

On 13 and 14 June, two architects celebrated their birthdays toeghter. They were Michele Capasso, 58 years old, President of the Fondazione Mediterraneo, “Architect of Peace” and Vittorio di Pace (whose surname leterally translated means “of peace”), 105 years old,
who share their birthdays on the same day. 
On that occasion, the Mayor de Magistris who was also present, decided to celebrate his fellow citizen’s birthday in the Council Meeting Room. He described Vittorio di Pace as being “so lucid despite his senior years”. “The Interethnic City” project and the “Infopoint” that Architect di Pace is supervising for the Fondazione Mediterraneo were also celebrated.
It was noteworthy that several eminent personalities recalled the commitment of the “Peace Architects” in the respective fields. Gerardo Marotta, attorney and President of the Istituto Italiano per gli Studi Filosofici, referred to the commitment and value to society of the work carried out by Michele Capasso, as well as paying tribute to Vittorio di Pace, whom he described as a true gentleman.

At his 105th birthday celebration, Vittorio di Pace, received a gift entitled “Bacio distratto” from Pia Molinari by the sculptor Mario Molinari.
 Vittorio di Pace expressed his appreciation for the work of art.

THE TOTEM FOR PEACE IN THE LEBANON

President Michele Capasso met with the director of public relations of the Association des Banques du Liban in Beirut to reach agreement on the construction of the monumental work, the “Totem for Peace” by the sculptor Mario Molinari in the Lebanon.

INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR ON EURO-MEDITERRANEAN RELATIONS

The President of the Fondazione Mediterraneo Michele Capasso took part in the international seminar organised by the  “Arab NGO Network for Development” with about 100 experts from various disciplines in the Euromed Countries. The theme was EUROPEAN – SOUTHERN MEDITERRANEAN RELATIONS: Discussing policies  and partnerships to support economic and social rights and the role of civil society.
During his speech, President Capasso referred to the 20 year commitment to Euro-Mediterranean partnership, the Euromed Civil forum organised by the Fondazione Mediterraneo, in addition to analyzing  today’s challenges following the events of the “Arab Spring”.

AT THE SITES OF THE MASSACRE

President Michele Capasso went to the sites of the latest massacre in Homs with a delegation of international organisms for peace. On 11 June 2012, 60 civilians were killed there in a mortar attacks fired from helicopters belonging to Assad’s regime.
President Capasso stated that, “as long as the Russians, the Iranians and the Hezbollah continue to support President Assad, the civil war in Syria will continue to cause the deaths of innocent people. I fully share the concern of Shimon Peres about the use of chemical weapons in the possession of the Syrians and if the situation should reach a crisis, I hope that the terms of Chapter VII of the UN Charter will be applied. In other words, that the use of armed force will be allowed under exceptional circumstances.
It is totally unacceptable for innocent children to be sacrificed.”
