A SEAT OF THE MUSEUM OF PEACE - MAMT IN THE MEDINA OF SOUSSE

The international committee of the Museum of Peace - MAMT decided to verify the possibility of creating a seat of the Museum of Peace - MAMT – as a reference for the south shore of the Mediterranean - in the Medina of Sousse, UNESCO World Heritage Site.
During timely inspections, president Michele Capasso - accompanied by Anis Boufrika and Faical Labayed - inspected several sites in the Medina of Sousse in order to develop an integrated project to enhance the Medina with the involvement of its inhabitants and managers of the fields of handicraft and hospitality activities.

THE MEDITERRANEAN AND THE EURO-EUROPEAN DIALOGUE

During the international conference on the "Arab Maghreb", president Michele Capasso spoke with the former Secretary General of the Arab Maghreb Union Habib Ben Yahia.
Among the topics discussed there was that of need for a dialogue within Europe, the "Euro-European" dialogue to guarantee results in all Euro-Mediterranean policies.
"In fact - underlined Capasso - a region like Sicily is much closer and similar to Tunisia than to other European countries (such as Finland, Estonia or Lithuania): this is why a" Euro-European "dialogue is required in the cultural, social, economic and political spheres to better deal with programs and actions with the countries of the Southern Shore of the Mediterranean ".

The President Michele Capasso participated in the 4th International Colloquium "The Maghreb, geo-historical determinism and strategic issues" organized by the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung and the Political Academy Forum.
The professor Capasso presided over the second scientific session dedicated to the "Challenges of integration of the Maghreb" and took part in the third scientific session dedicated to "The Maghreb and the other" with the report "The Great Mediterranean and the Arab Maghreb".
The tendency to consider the Maghreb Union as "a geopolitical, geo-economic necessity and the hope for a sustainable economic development" (Lamrani, 2013) still persists.
Is hope for a common Maghreb future at all levels desirable? It's possible?
Three main concepts were at the base of the interview: understanding, seeing, building.
Concrete experiences of cooperation between States and civil society in the Maghreb countries can in fact be sources of inspiration to identify the areas to be exploited as priorities.
On this occasion, the titles of "Standard Bearers of the United States of the World" were awarded to young scholars and diplomats from various countries.

THE PRESIDENT OF THE EC JUNCKER MEETS THE PRESIDENT OF TUNISIA ESSEBSI

During a cordial meeting at the Palace of Carthage, the President of the European Commission, Jeam-Claude Juncker, met the President of Tunisia Caid Essebsi.
In this meeting, President Juncker announced that the Commission had withdrawn Tunisia from the "black lists" of third countries for funding terrorist groups.
On this occasion, it confirmed the granting of a loan to Tunisia by the EU for 270 million euro to strengthen the strategic partnership.
President Capasso, present in Tunis, welcomed this further step towards a closer structuring of relations between Tunisia and the EU, recalling the proposal of the Fondazione Mediterraneo, since 1997, to associate countries such as Tunisia and Morocco with EU to strengthen peace and cooperation.

The president of the Mediterranean Foundation Michele Capasso, during his trip to Tunisia, has retraced an itinerary on camel from Gammarth to Bizerte: the same carried out in 1989 with his fraternal friend Predrag Matvejevic' (with him and other Mediterranean intellectuals he created the Foundation thirty years ago) that defined Tunisia as "cousin sea".

SECOND CONFERENCE "ITALY-AFRICA"

The "Second Italy-Africa Conference" was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (Farnesina).
Three hundred and fifty delegates representing 46 African countries and 13 international organizations, including the African Union.
The Fondazione Mediterraneo expresses its satisfaction with this important initiative which represents an important moment of structured dialogue between Italy and the states of the African continent.
President Mattarella said in his speech that "The main objective for the future depends on the ability to work together to go beyond the logic of emergence, governing the phenomenon, removing the root causes".
President Capasso underlined the need to structure a stable partnership between Italy and the African countries in order to create more actions capable of training young people in Africa: "In the near future - said Capasso - Italy, following the path of aging of its population, it will need migrants capable of assuming operational roles in society: the challenge is to know how to train and integrate them by abandoning the concept of "tolerance" to assume that of "coexistence".
